Job Search

The job search has been pretty frustrating at times. I have applied to numerous meteorology jobs across the nation, some as far away as Hawaii. Until I find a meteorology job, I have to find a regular job to get some income. That hasn't gone very well either as I have applied to several job here around Goose Creek, but haven't heard anything from a single job.

I took a little break during the holidays as I figured most people were not going to be hiring many people during this time. This temporary break is now over and the job search continues! I just applied for a job in Mississippi at the Stennis Space Center. I really hope I get it as I would love to move back to the Gulf Coast with all my friends!

Please pray that I get this job or that another job will head my way.

Crazy Dreams

One night this past week I had two crazy dreams...

The first one was of me walking into a doctor's office for just a regular check up and they were weighing me as they usually do and my weight had decreased to 99 lbs! The crazy part is that the dream took place in a few days, from what seemed like the present. I currently weigh roughly 180 pounds so that means that in roughly 3 days I lost about 100 lbs! Not sure what this meant...maybe to not eat so much? No comment Jaclyn....haha

The second one was even more weird and crazy. I was bowling with some people. I called them friends but I didn't know any of them except one. Her name is Celia and she was in my Passion community group from last year. We hung out for a while and then left. The next morning I went to my high school marching band's practice and was trying to talk to the director...Ms. Grace. It seemed like she was trying to avoid me. Next thing I know, the MET Club President comes up to me and asks who went bowling and that he needed to know. So I went around asking all the band members if they went. For some reason I couldn't remember Celia and that's when I noticed all the band members that were crying. I asked somebody what happened and they said that Celia had died. So they did a practice in memory of her and I ended up with some shoes that were red that Celia liked to wear. Then the dream ended.

Yes. Very crazy dreams.

Crazy Morning

Christmas morning.....a time for family and worship. A great morning indeed.

However this past Christmas morning was CRAZY! It all started at 2 AM...

Mom came in around 2 AM and said "Sam! Did you hear anything fall?" Me being half asleep roughly said no. She then asked Randall the same thing and he just mumbled something. She then yelled "EVERYBODY GET UP, I HEARD SOMETHING FALL!" Randall and I got up and she made us search all over the house to find the thing that fell. She made em go up to the attic considering I put stuff up in the attic the day before. While up in the attic I heard people talking so I came back down and told Mom. We then turned off all the lights and started to look outside. All of a sudden a light was shining behind our house on the road. It was a police officer's light.

We then went into the kitchen and opened the windows to hear what was going on. We saw one car and people outside of it. After a while they left. The police officer was still around. I offered to my Mom to drive by and see what was going on. So around 2:20 AM we both went out in our pjs drove by the scene. A car (drive assumed was drunk) drove off of the road and into the ditch and hit a tree. Yes all of this searching was for a car that hit a tree. We all went back to bed and most of us didn't fall back asleep until 3 AM.

We then woke up at 6 AM to do presents and then went to church, followed by going to my aunts to do christmas with the family. Yes, crazy morning indeed!

Thoughts So Far...

I have been home roughly a week, give a day or two and I would like to share some thoughts that I have had...

1. Wow! Goose Creek, SC has been given a huge facelift! The Charleston area expanded I-26 into 4 lanes and it is very nice! It makes traffic flow much easier. I'm not saying that traffic is absolutely wonderful because recently it is all about the Christmas traffic (btw....I cannot stand). The City of Goose Creek has been updated for a new downtown area and it looks very "civilized." Yes, the city of Goose Creek and the surrounding area has changed drastically in the landscape.

2. The cities surrounding Charleston have not only changed in the physicality but the people have changed. This has bugged me the most. All of my friends down have done one of the following: (A) Get married (B) Have kids or (C) Moved away and are only down for Christmas Break. It is weird hanging out with people around my age or younger that have kids and are married. It is hard to relate to them now it is not as fun as it used to be.

3. Something related to #2...the group at church has changed. Most of the people that I hang out with are the people from church and most of them are the people who are married and have kids. The college group at my church is made up of those people and naturally the bible studies are related to marriages and kids stuff. Also many of my closest friends have left the church and are visiting several new churches. I'm going to give Ridge one month and then consider looking for a new church.

4. Can I just say that it is weird to move home after 3 1/2 years of living by yourself?? Well I just did. It is very weird indeed. My living space has been shrunk down to pretty much half of a room. Luckily I have set up my TV and my blu-ray player and the wii in my room. This is my temporary break away from the world and my Mom haha. I'm kind of ready to move out already.....need a job first.

5. Speaking of the job front, I need a job. I am getting a little bored at home just sitting around watching TV. I have applied to many National Weather Service jobs from Hawaii to Key West, FL. No word from those yet. I have also applied to several regular jobs including Best Buy, and Bi-Lo. No word from those either. Prayers would be appreciated on this issue.

Yep those are my initial thoughts on life back in Charleston. I'm sure I'll post more later!

Graduate

It has finally happened. I am officially an alumni of the University of South Alabama with a bachelor of science in meteorology and a minor in mathematics and it feels great!!

So what am I doing now? Not much. I am currently writing this blog post on my bed in the middle of my room. I moved back home for a while and currently looking for a job. I have applied to several places around the nation with the National Weather Service, including Hawaii and Key West, FL. Until I find a meteorology job, I need to find a regular job to get some income, so I have also been applying to odd-jobs including Best Buy, Lifeway, Walgreens, and Bi-Lo. Haven't heard anything from either job. So the search continues after Christmas!

On a more "nappy" sentimental note....

I miss my friends in Alabama like crazy! Don't get me wrong, it is nice to come home but I spent 3 1/2 years with those people non-stop and then all of a sudden it was cut short. The last week down there was absolutely emotional, especially Friday through Sunday. I spent as much time with my friends down there as much as possible. Saturday night I hung out with some of my closest friends (minus a few) for the last time before I left and we watched "The Smurfs" and just talked. I ended up spending the night at Micah's as it was almost 3:00 AM when everyone left hahaha. Sunday morning I left Micah's house and continued to pack and move out.

Yeah I'm going to miss all of them! I am already working on a trip to come back, most likely around February/March time.

Also if you live in Alabama and are reading this....you are more than welcome to come visit South Carolina any time!!!

T - 4

T - 4 Days and Counting.

It is Tuesday early morning and the countdown to graduation is coming to a close. Things are happening that signal the end...such as eating whats left in the room so I won't have to waste food, or spending as much time with friends as possible. Yes, the end is near. However it is a new beginning. A beginning that I am not sure what brings yet.

I applied to two regular jobs this morning for the CHS & MOB areas. I have found a new way to search for meteorology jobs and hope that is brings more opportunities my way. I continue to pray for God's leadership and wisdom in the coming days as decisions must be made.

I will be done with school completely by Wednesday at 12:30 PM and that will be a glorious time! I am tired of school and doing school work and currently digging deep to find motivation to study for finals...hence why it is 12:45 AM haha. Starting Wednesday at 12:45 PM, a very long party is about to start and will continue through January 1st. This is my mini-vacation from the world in which I will be spending time with friends and family. This includes leaving good friends down and reuniting with some old friends back in Charleston.

Yes, 4 days and counting.

Fussing Helps

For a while, my car's check engine light has been on and I haven't had a chance to deal with it. This past weekend I went to Autozone and they did a diagnosis on it and they told me a bunch of foreign car language. Luckily they gave me a print out. Basically it said something about the fuel/oxygen ratio. I was planning on taking it the nearest NAPA Auto shop tomorrow morning at 7 AM....btw the nearest shop is 30 minutes away!

As I was pulling into the dorm parking lot tonight the light went off. I was, a few minutes earlier, complaining to the car about how I didn't have time for its nonsense this week.

I think it listened to me! Hahaha.

Let It Begin!

It comes down to this....one week left in Mobile! Graduation is this Saturday and it is going to be crazy!

Going to be honest here for a moment....I seem calm and collected on the outside, but inside I am freaking out! I am stressed, and distraught over leaving Mobile. Another Boring Night

Monday night was extremely boring. Nobody was free to do anything so I sat around and watched TV. I feel like I have been in prison in my room due to the fact that I don't have a car at the moment. So I planned an event tonight (Wed) with some of the bookstore employees. Those plans fell through.

What gets me is the person who was hosting it, I considered a good....possibly best friend.....decided to cancel the whole thing and even through I was the only one still coming. First of all I haven't hung out with me in almost two weeks and we could have still hung out. Rent a movie or something. What makes me really aggravated is that he text me and said that he was going to his girlfriend's house. Wow......................................................got ditched for the girlfriend. To be honest, made me pretty upset. So now I am once again stranded in this prison with nothing to do.

This is not how I was wanting to spend my few weeks in Mobile......stuck in a 4-sided cement prison.

Car = Freedom

In case you haven't heard by my post on facebook or following me on twitter (@samswindler), my car broke down outside of Atlanta on the way back to Mobile. After waiting minutes for the tow truck and waiting for the mechanic at NAPA to tell us what is wrong with the car, the fuel pump is the problem! The guy said that it was a 3 hour job and they closed in a hour. Meaning that we had to live the car in Atlanta! Yeah.....five hours away. We are scheduled to pick it up Friday afternoon in which my Dad will have to drive me back to Atlanta on his way to Jacksonville (5 hours) and then i have to drive me back (5 hours).

Anybody can do that basic math, that is a total of 10 hours of driving on Friday afternoon starting at 12:00 PM! Yea......so not looking forward to that drive. I just drove 20+ hours over the thanksgiving break and plus I will have to drive by myself. I am currently trying to convince some friends to go up with me so that I can have someone drive back with me. Not looking good so far.

On top of all this I have to depend on people for rides and such before Friday. I am very dependent when it comes to my car and rides to places. I feel like I have to pay them back for giving me rides, even though that is what friends are for....being there when you need it. However that is just me. Also I am going to miss the BCM Christmas party....my last Christmas party and I am going to miss it! Great. Stupid car.........great timing!

3 Weeks!

In exactly 3 weeks from today, I will be graduating from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor of science in meteorology. I have so many mixed emotions.

Happy - Excited - Sad - Scared - Terrified

I am beyond ready to be done with school but I am absolutely not ready to leave my friends down here. I am going to spend the next 3 weeks spending as much time as I can with them before I leave. I can already tell that it is going to get emotional!

Black Friday

You know, the day in which thousands of people go to several department stores to get great deals and people go crazy! Yea, we all know the day....it just happened a few days ago and guess who was in the middle of it....yeah me! I actually didn't go to shop but I went with my cousin to Walmart and Game Stop. We got to Walmart right at 10:00 PM, which is when the first wave of deals started and it was CRAZY! We went to the electronics to find a game for my Mom (weird I know) and at 9:59 PM people started to tear open the boxes for $.99 DVDs and other sales. This poor old employee lady was all in the middle of it and ducked when the boxes went flying. My cousins and me just stood there and watched and laughed. Needless to say, we didn't find the game and left.

James and me then went to Game Stop and waited until their store opened at midnight. We stood in a line at 11:00 and he got a Zelda 3DS system. Nothing really happened at Game Stop except this one family got into an argument about cutting into line.

We drove by Best Buy to see how long the line was and it was still wrapped around the building at 12:30 AM....the store opened at 12. Craziness.

After this I went back to the house. My sister and me went to Best Buy, Walmart, and Toys-R-Us to look at the carnage and to see what is left. After all the madness I walked out with the Star Wars trilogies on blu-ray. Excited!

Laughing At Myself

Sometimes I crack myself up. I two instances today in which I cracked myself up.

1. I put my car in the shop to get an oil change before my trip home tomorrow and just told them to do an oil change and that I was leaving and would come back later to pick it up. Me not thinking, gave them my keys. Not just my car key but ALL of my keys, including my room key. I went to class and walked out to start going back to my room to finish packing and realized that I didn't have my keys. Ha! Stranded on campus and not sure what to do. So I go and visit my boss......a nerd I know.

2. Speaking of my boss, I have been thinking of what to get her for such a great time at the bookstore. I decided to do a scrapbook about my time as a softgoods employee. Not going to give away all the stuff in the scrapbook but one page will be all the past employees that she has hired since hiring me. One of them is Donald Smith. We didn't become great friends and I didn't have a photo of him. So I started to think...how can I get a photo of him. BAM! It hit me....facebook! I couldn't remember his last name at the time so a search on facebook didn't work. I went to a friend's page (Ben) who currently works with us and found Donald's girlfriend in a photo with Ben's girlfriend. Clicked on that photo which lead me to her profile page and there it was "in a relationship with Donald Smith." BINGO! Found a photo of Donald. Saved it and printed it off......I was proud of myself but I also felt like such a creeper! Still cracked myself up haha.

Yep, I crack myself up sometimes....actually a lot.

IDC

IDC = I dont care.

As graduation approaches, am I getting this attitude of I don't care any more. I don't care about school and I especially don't care about who I make mad or anything like that. Recently there were some rumors started around the BCM about how I liked a freshman female. First of all I hardly knew this girl and at the time i was not looking to be in a relationship. It really upset me that this rumor was started around the BCM of all places. I expect that from the MET department or the bookstore but not the BCM. This made me not like the BCM that much but I got over it. Now more drama has occurred and at the point where idc.

If you want to cause drama then go ahead. I'm graduating in less than a month and then I will be out of all this stupid drama. I hate drama. The end.

T - 33

Its 6:48 A.M. and I am awake, but I don't have class until 9:05 A.M. Why am I awake? Doing laundry.....one of the disadvantages of the dorm, you have to wait until they are empty which is usually in the morning and early afternoon. So what else do you do at (now) 6:50 A.M.? I obviously blog haha.

Some thoughts that have been going through my head lately....

The latest countdown until graduation is 33 days away!!! I am more excited than anything as I am ready to get out of school for a while. On the other hand I will miss my friends who are here in Alabama. I had to admit that other day that I would return as Alabama now runs through my veins, even though I make fun of Alabama. I am trying to plan as much stuff with my friends down here as possible so I enjoy these last few moments with them. I know that my friends in Charleston are pretty excited about me coming back and spending more time with them as I rarely got to see them throughout college. (WARNING: I am about to quote a Miley Cyrus song). Why can't I have the best of both worlds!!!???

The job search is pretty much going no where. There are jobs opening up in the NWS but everybody is applying for those so the competition is tough. I don't want to end up with some random job, as I have worked for 5 years for a degree in meteorology, not a degree in customer service or anything like that. Oh well, that is life I guess. Going to continue to search for a real job.

I have less than 33 days left at work as I probably won't work that last week since it will be so crazy. THANK GOODNESS!!!! Everyday I walk into the bookstore, the more I am ready to leave. The store drives me crazy with all the lazy people and the stupid drama. I am having no motivation to do anything and the boss sees that, which probably isn't good. We have a good relationship where we can mess with each other so I know she is not going to fire me and she realizes that I am pretty much halfway out the door. Our last football game is this week......GO JAGS! We are still undefeated at home, which is pretty cool!

As for the girlfriend front, not much change. I have been looking and one has been brought into my mind but I am still praying about it. We have had a tough history here at South and not sure if it would work out. Still praying about that.

I went to Walmart the other night to get a few things and I grabbed a box of pop-tarts and behind this box of pop-tarts [hot fudge sundae flavor] was another box of pop-tarts (revolutionary concept I know) and its flavor was funfetti cake! I got very excited as this is my favorite type of cake!!! I grabbed it immediately like a kid in a candy store and through it into my buggie (is that how you spell that????). To my disappointment, its not very good.

My clothes are now in the dryer and I think it is time to move onto something else....maybe more productive? Ha. I doubt it.

Until next time.....

DC*B

If you know me at all, then you know that very few things get me VERY excited.....one of those things is David Crowder! He is in a band called David Crowder * Band, which is a christian band. They have released 6 albums over the past few years and they get better and better. They announced over the summer season that after their 7th album, they are going to break up as a band.......devastating!

They are currently on the last tour, called the 7 tour.....7 tour for the 7th (and last) album. They are coming to Mobile and who has tickets...oh yeah, you are reading his blog! I am so excited! I have a busy week school-wise and this is the only thing letting me get through this week! Thursday night can not come fast enough!

In other Crowder-related news, they announced the title of their 7th album and released the album artwork. Here is is:
In case you can't read the bottom in white letters, it says "or (a requiem mass in c [the happiest of all keys])"

It comes out January 10th and I am sure it is going to be good!!!

Interests

Today I had my "informative speech" for public speaking (if you want to know my thoughts on the class, see post below) and the most interesting part of the group was the different topics chosen. There were about 10 people in the time that I signed up for, and it was split almost 50/50 males to females. Here are some of the topics discussed:
  • Hurricanes (mine of course)
  • Domestic Violence
  • Dungeons & Dragons (board game)
  • Pigs
  • Initiative 26 (a MS law banning birth control)
  • Power Plants
  • Black Holes
  • Steel Drums
  • Drinking
  • Couponing
As you can see, very diverse group of topics.

Overall it was a pretty good class, got a little boring at the end. Oh and I made a 94 on my speech! Oh yeah!

Public Speaking

I am currently taking public speaking.....I know weird to wait until the last semester but it makes the last semester easy...and I consider it a waste of time!

It is online which makes no sense to me and they make us post these discussion responses and we are forced to respond to at least 2 other people's posts. It is just busy work and a waste of my time. I would much rather be playing video games or even reading a book than doing this stupid school work.

We also have to do 3 speeches throughout the semester. We have done one (commemorative speech) and I have to do one tomorrow (informative speech). I'm doing my speech on why hurricanes have increased over the last century due to several factors including better technology in satellites and hurricane forecasting. So naturally I'm prepared but I just don't feel like doing it. I'm sitting here looking at my outline and trying to motivate myself to write out note cards but I'm finding it hard to find that motivation.

Ugh. Guess I have to go do it now. My speech is at 12:30 tomorrow. I'm probably going to be rolling my eyes during the whole thing......such a waste of time!

Beginning...

Graduation is 42 days away (who is counting?) and I am beginning to have thoughts about what is going to happen after graduation.....job-wise, school-wise, etc. I am terrified but excited at the same time. I am ready for a change....ready to leave the bookstore, ready to just live life and not worry about school.

I am learning especially now, that I need to rely on God and His plan for myself as I enter this new chapter in my life.

December 17th is not far away!

Single Life

There are pros and cons of a single life. I have been thinking about this lately as many of my best friends are in a relationships and there are many times that I feel like a third wheel win we hang out.

Pros:
- Save money....obviously
- Not pinned down all the time to hangout

Cons:
- Don't have anyone to be there for all the time
- Don't have that trust that comes with a person who is more than your best friend.

I'll be honest, thought the list was going to be longer but I am not an expert on love. Every time I around a couple, a desire that has been inside for a few months grows more and more. I am ready to find a girl that I will marry and live the rest of my life with. Trust me when I say that I am looking. I am relying on God to show me the right girl, a godly girl who is loving and caring.

I see all these couples having fun with each other and enjoying spending time with each other and I so desire that. I want to be able to go on double dates with my friends so I can spend more time with my friends before I graduate.

I have never really have had more of a desire for anything than my desire for this. I continue to pray and wait patiently and wait on God.

ATL Takeover

Last weekend myself and 5 others made a weekend trip to ATL to watch South take on the Georgia State Panthers! We left Friday night and visited a Dwarf Chick-fil-a, one of the original restaurants, and then headed to our hotel for the night. Saturday we visited World of Coca-cola and drank a LOT of sugar! AFter that we ate in the CNN Center and then headed to the game.

At the game we sat by the VIPs of the university including the president (two rows in front of us), public relations guy (row in front of us) and the dean of student affairs....the boss of the bookstore (5 seats down from me on the same row). The only bad thing is that they are so boring and don't cheer much so we didn't get to cheer as much as we wanted to.

The game was alright until the very end. We had :08 seconds left in the game down by 7 and they make it to the end zone and through it in but it go intercepted but there was a flag on the play on the opposing team, so we go the ball back. We throw it in again and score to tie it up with :04 seconds left and the game went into OT. Neither team scored and went into double OT. The panthers scored and we did not so the game ended 27-20.....overall a good game.

After the game we went out to eat and then went to Braden's house to stay the night. We woke up to a great breakfast and then headed home. A great weekend full of great memories!!

Let's A Go!

On Friday the BCM had their annual "Halloween" party and the theme this year was childhood cartoons. Some of the guys at the bookstore decided to dress up as a group and we decided to Mario and company. We had Mario, Luigi, Wario, Daisy, and Yoshi in bag form haha. Other people from the bookstore decided to do things differently and one was the Hulk and the other was Iceman from X-men.

There were many costumes at the party that were great! Probably one of the best "Halloween" parties ever at the BCM, that I have been apart of.
Softgood guys: Mario [me], Luigi [Micah], Wario [Ben], Hulk [Adam], and BJ [Iceman]

Me and "Yoshi," shouldn't it be reversed though??
The Mario Gang with Daisy [Micah's girlfriend]
We all have to dress back up for work tomorrow! Woohoo!!

[INSERT TITLE HERE]

So this post is going to be all over the place because right now several things are going on in my mind.

The past few days have been pretty hectic with school, work, and life stuff. Work has something going on all the time whether it be sidewalk sales, football, inventory, or just general end of season sales. Once you think school is going to slow down a bit it gets more hectic with graduation stuff.

I'm not complaining about life at all. Sure there are certain things I could do with/without right now but that is life....you deal with it. Overall life is good, I am loving being with friends and spending time with friends, even though I should focus more on school work but senioritis is in full effect!!! Graduation needs to get here!

I am already fearing what will happen after I graduate. I have so many options and I need to make sure I am doing what God wants me to do, which is kind of hard for me to be honest. However that is a whole another blog post.

Anyways, just figured I would post something since I haven't in a while. Maybe I will have time to post a more logical/focused blog post this upcoming week.

What A Day....

Today has been one crazy day.

First of all it is homecoming week and so by default, pretty much everyday this week is going to be a crazy day. Today was especially crazy though. It started with my first public speaking speech this morning. It went well....made an 85! Woohoo! Then had an interesting conversation with my Mom and life in general (notice the casual insert of the blog title, oh yeah, that just happened!) and then a conversation with two BCMers while I waited to 10:30 so I could go into work. Ended up talking too much and was late....oops. Worked until 3 in which I came back to my room and ate some lunch.

However my bread had got all soggy and I couldn't make a sandwich.....very weird indeed. So i ate a half can of Pringles, obviously I need to go to Wal-mart. The chips were salt and vinegar flavored, in case you were wondering. Went back to the BCM to work on homework and then finished most of my radar homework. Merge started and we got fed tacos for dinner. YUM!!!

This is when it got crazy. From 9 - now (11:20), my world has gone the opposite direction I thought it was going to go....for now. A girl, who shall remain anonymous came up to me asking me about relationship advice. Totally would not have expected this from this person as our past has been rocky in our own relationships. Nonetheless she came to me and I helped her with a few things. Now I am pretty much setting up group dates for this girl and this guy that I don't really know. Weird right?

Next thing that comes up, is that I am planning an over-night trip to Atlanta to see the Jags play Georgia State. Would not have expected that tonight at all!

Oh man......crazy day indeed!

Friends....

Even though the post below says I am going to write about certain topics, I have changed my mind. I am just going to write about whats going on in my mind as graduation (Dec. 17th) gets closer.
Braden and me watching JAG baseball

The thing on my mind is leaving my friends down here. Over the past 3.5 years I have made some amazing friends down here at South. I have seen some friends lose contact but I know that there is a core group that I will keep up with and they will keep up with me. This core group, I have created several memories with and will cherish those memories throughout my entire life. On December 18th I am going to leave Mobile to head back home and from there I am not sure where I am going to end up. That is going to be a very tough day, leaving my friends down here.

I think it is time for a stroll down memory lane....let's being with sophomore year [freshman year took place in SC at Trident.....BTW I hate Trident]

Fred, Amy, and me dressed up as some of the Scobby gang.
Making new friends started right away when I got here and met my first friend through a facebook post that said, "Craving Cracker Barrel....anybody wanna go?" Braden Cheek chat messaged me and that friendship was born. I met Fred Schmidt (first roommate) and Miranda Hayes at the MET Club welcome week event. I got to know BJ Smith through a bible study for freshman/transfer students called FiSH groups and he was my leader. I met Colin Roeder through the BCM and his first time around me, he said that I ignored him and text people instead....hahaha, what can I say, I was shy. I met Jaclyn Tisdale (Fatty) and Ashley Davis through the MET club and being friends with Miranda. I learned that Carly Nichols had the same birthday as me [June 26] and Amy Cannon dressed up with me and Fred as the Scooby Doo gang. I got to know Jaclyn more through SeCAPS and Miranda and Fred more through a mission trip to NOLA....one of the best mission trips I have been on! Then there was this time Fred, Miranda, Jaclyn, and me all took a trip to Biloxi, MS which then turned into a trip to NOLA....gotta love spontaneous road trips.
Spontaneous trip to NOLA

I met many others at the BCM through various events such as Oozeball (didn't play, just watched), Urban Plunge mission trip to Jacksonville, FL, etc. Some people that met include but excluded to Lauren Walker, Kelley Greathouse, Katie Hepler, Omar Torres, Gillis Jones, and Daniel Wise.

Wow, what a great first year! It just gets better from here....next post will be junior year.

3 1/2 years!

Three and a half years in the making and it comes down to one event....GRADUATION!! So much has happened over the last 3 1/2 years that I could probably write a book from all of the lessons learned, but instead I'm going to write a series of blog posts that commemorate my time here at South.

These posts will include the following topics:
  • Lessons I have Learned
  • Some of my best memories
  • Changes Made to South
  • The Future After South
I will start these posts probably later this week or over the weekend. Should be fun to take a stroll down memory lane!

Abortion Riots

I was driving down Airport Blvd. (a road to similar to rivers avenue in charelston) on Sunday and there were about 150-200 people standing on the side of the road protesting abortion. They had signs about how it kills and to save lives and were waving at people. If any one of them fell over they would have been run over.....thats how close.

I must say it was pretty intimidating seeing all of those people but also kind of annoying as they were slowing down traffic. Don't get me wrong, I'm against abortion but I am against the way they presented their views. As far as I know there was no abortion clinic around and therefore no need to have that protest on the main road and to put themselves in danger.

I think they could have come up with better ways in getting their message out instead of protesting on the side of the road. Just my opinion.

Things That Make Me "SMH"

What does smh stand for? Shake My Head.

I was walking out of Wal-mart and thought about the stuff that people do that make me shake my head at. Here is my top 5:
  1. Mobile Drivers
  2. People who casually walk across the street and don't speed up
  3. People who drive across a full parking lot and almost run into me
  4. Rude people
  5. People who don't respect other people for no reason
What makes you smh?

It Has Arrived!!

After 5 - 6 months of unbearable heat, fall has arrived here in Mobile! This is my favorite seasons as the leaves turn different colors and the holiday season approaches. This fall means something special to me, it is the time that I graduate from college and start a new chapter in my life.....that is a different blog post entirely. Back to Fall...

Here is the forecast for MOB and I'm loving it!!!
With Fall comes Fall Break, which is currently happening on the campus of South. I really don't have any plans for Fall Break and kind of making it up as I go. Right now I'm doing some much needed laundry and having a Transformers marathon considering I got all 3 of the movies on blu-ray yesterday. Tuesday will be the best day of Fall Break as Crowder's Christmas CD comes out that day as well as the newest book in the Percy Jackson series, Son of Neptune comes out as well!

Yes, Fall has arrived!

Update: Click-Click-Click

Although I never received a notification, apparently the maintenance department visited my room and checked out the fridge and the very loud clicking noise it was making. Well the fridge still makes noise but it is not loud any more and only lasts a few minutes. It is GLORIOUS!!! I can sleep at night now.

Did he just blog about football???

Why yes, I did/about to blog about football!

On Saturday, South Alabama faced their first real competition since the football program was created, and that was North Carolina State. Everybody I talked to or listened to said that we were going to lose so I didn't expect much. The Jags have been undefeated since the first game and the record was 19-0! Obviously from my use of past tense, you can tell that we lost to NC State. The score at the game was 35 - 13....which doesn't seem too bad to me! We scored! I was expecting, from everyone talking, that we were going to lose with a score of 40-0 but that was not the case.

So the streak has ended but the Jags should be proud! 19-1 is a great record for a new program and we are going finish the season out strong. The next home game is Oct. 15.....a little break for those of us who have to work at the games. The weather will be great and it should be fun!

GO SOUTH!!!

God is Amazing

God is amazing! He does things for you when you don't even ask.

This week was going to be a very long week! I have the first Radar test Wednesday and then my first Differential Equations test on Friday. Each course require a lot of studying and there was no way I would be able to study for both of them as much as I needed. On top of this I woke up this morning with a slight soar throat and I'm afraid that my allergies are beginning to mess up.

I went to Radar class today and he barely went over what was on the test and he told us how much we had to know. Kind of freaking out. I went to Different Equations class after that this morning and the first thing the teacher said was "we have a test this Friday, I am pretty sure that I am going move it." BLESSING!!!

This was a huge burden lifted off of my shoulder and I can breathe and relax a little bit now. As for the sickness part, I just woke up from a two hour nap and feel a little better.....enough so that I can study for Radar. The pollen in the air is currently being washed away by the rain, and its not over yet, there is rain forecasted for every day this week!

Yep, God is amazing!

Click-Click-Click

Can you imagine hearing that noise non-stop, all day long!?

Welcome to my life! My fridge a few weeks ago started to do this clicking noise and it is SOOO annoying! It has gotten so loud that I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. I couldn't take it any longer and just put in a maintenance request to fix the noise on the fridge.

Yeah....pretty annoying!

Cheers!!

The other night me and some friends went to cracker barrel for dinner and while we were walking in to be seated, one of them (Christina) pointed out that the restaurant's store sells Cheerwine in 4 pack glass bottles! I was in heaven!

First of all lets stop there.....if you are asking what is Cheerwine then let me tell you! It is one of the best sodas ever created and it started in the Carolinas in 1917 and it is a unique sparkling cherry soda (according to Wikipedia). Now it contains no alcohol or wind, contrary to what the name says. It is VERY exclusive and pretty hard to find unless you are in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Virginia. Before the other night the only place I knew that sold it in Alabama was in Birmingham. So now that we all know what this Cheerwine thing I speak of is....back to the post.

So yeah Cracker Barrel now sells it in their stores and I am very excited. You can buy it in the 4-pack or by the bottle. So most likely I will be getting at least a bottle every time I go!

GO CHEERWINE!!!!

Ready to Settle

I am ready to find that girl that I am going to spend the rest of my life with. I have been thinking about this a lot lately as everybody around is celebrating their two-year anniversary, or getting married, or are just happy together.

It sucks being the single guy and hanging out with a group of couples. No matter who you are and who I am with, there are times that I feel like the 3rd-5th-7th wheel. There are some days that I just need to get away from all the couples as it bugs me at some times.

But anyways back to the original topic. I am about to end one chapter of my life and begin a new one in about two months! I am not sure what is going to happen but it would be nice to have somebody there beside me, going through the next chapter with me, and all of the other chapters to follow.

Needless to say, I am praying, looking, and waiting for that right girl.

Football = Boring

Can I go on the record and say that I do NOT like football? Well of course I can, this is my blog!

I do NOT like football! Its not that I do not like the sport itself, its the fact that everybody lives for it. Yesterday was the first game of college football teams and everybody, and I mean everybody, was talking about it. Twitter and facebook was flooded with football scores, reference, you name it! Then if one person insults another or makes a comment about another team, this huge debate happens.

Meanwhile a Tropical Storm is hitting the Gulf Coast and no body is paying attention to it. It seems very weird to me and I don't like it.

Now this was not to start some debate in person or on this blog. I am just expressing my opinion. I know there are things that I am interested in that some people might find boring.....I get that. I just needed to express my opinion on this.

Tropical Storm Lee: Advisory 6

The hurricane season is in full swing! Tropical Storm Lee is now threatening the gulf coast is expected to bring about 17 - 20 inches of rain to the area over the next 5 days.

The biggest threat to the Mobile area from this storm is rainfall. Mobile is expecting around 17" of rain over the next 5 days according to the Hydrological Prediction Center (HPC). Just a few hours ago Mobile was put under a tropical storm warning. Mobile is also under a flash flood watch through Monday evening.

The best chances for tropical conditions for Mobile is on Monday. Right now everybody is watching New Orleans as Lee is sitting nearly stationary to the south of New Orleans dropping a lot of rain onto the city and whether or not the levees will hold.

USA vs W. Alabama

Yesterday was the kickoff to South's football season against West Alabama. After weeks of preparation the bookstore was ready for this to be a great game!

We didn't leave until noon and did last minute preparations in the morning. At least we were leaving.....we hit traffic going to the stadium but it didn't ruin our spirits. We got there and unloaded tailgate 1 (venue) immediately and then the east venue. We moved on to tailgate 2 and the two west venues. We get tailgate almost completely unloaded and things went downhill! A huge thunderstorm from Tropical Storm Lee hit the stadium and it poured and the wind blew. I was stuck in the truck with 3 other people while about 7 people were stuck inside the tailgate 2 venue. They immediately through everything to the center so the shirts and stuff didn't get wet but they didn't predict what would happen. All the rain washed down the tiny hill that tailgate 2 was sitting on the bottom of and the bottom of the boxes got soaked!!

Tailgate 1 didn't get hit as bad but they still got a few things wet. After the storm passed the two bosses drove over to look at the damage and decided to shut tailgate 2 down as there was not much left to save. Tailgate 1 was to remain open for a while. We quickly unloaded the west venues and then went back to tailgate 2 to load up tailgate 2. As soon as we finished that they announced that tailgate 1 was going to shut down as well. We helped them load up the rest of that tent.

Just like that our two biggest venues were shut down and the estimated damage to shirts and stuff was about $1,000.....just from a thunderstorm. We all filled up the inside venues and tried to sell as much as we could. Our jaguar spirits were broken but we finally got them back. We brought out the tutus and people wore them around trying to raise some spirit up in the stadium. The venues inside did sell a lot of stuff and I have not heard how damage was done or if we made a profit.

Although it was the worse football game for the bookstore in the 3-season history, the JAGS are still undefeated as they beat W. Alabama 20 - 10 and are now 18-0!!! GO JAGS!!!!!!

Hurricane Irene: Advisory 24A

Hurricane Irene is currently a category 2 storm, but is expected to strengthen and become a category 3 storm again. Tropical storm conditions are expected for coastal South Carolina starting this morning through tomorrow morning. According to WCBD-TV News, Charleston county schools have been cancelled and Berkeley County schools are on a half-day schedule today. Wind gusts are expected to top at around 50 MPH with an estimated 1 - 2 inches of rain, however some areas could get 3 -4 inches of rain.

Meteorologist Rob Fowler tweeted that the first band from Irene was moving into downtown Charleston with winds of 50 MPH.

Hurricane Irene: Advisory #22A

As of advisory #22A, Hurricane Irene is currently a category 3 hurricane with its eye located over the north of the Bahamas. Little change in strength and forecast since the last advisory.

The biggest news is that the coast of South Carolina is under a tropical storm watch from Edisto Beach to the SC/NC border. This means that tropical storm conditions are expected within 36 hours. According to the Channel 2 News web-site there are no evacuations planned for the SC coast. The conditions expected are high winds and heavy rains. Stay tuned to local channels on up-to-the minute weather alerts.

Hurricane Irene: Advisory 18

Irene shot from the International Space Center. Courtesy: NASA
The 18th advisory for hurricane Irene shows that the track has not changed much since advisory #16. She will be off the SC/NC coastlines around 8 AM Saturday. The track has moved a little to the west due to a deepening of a trough in the northeastern US.

Currently the emphasis for news is on the Bahamas as it is making landfall in the Bahamas as of right now. For Charleston, SC, I would recommend staying tune to Channel 2 News (WCBD). There appears to be a lesser threat to the area as Charleston County is now in OPCON 4 which means they are just monitoring the storm and have no plan of action as of now.

Hurricane Irene: Advisory 16A

Check Spelling
Hurricane Irene is now a category 3! Charleston County emergency management went into OPCON 3 yesterday which puts part of the emergency team on alert. They are still at this status but are not planning any evacuations.

Little change to the track as Irene is expected to make landfall in the North Carolina outskirts. Shear is occurring to the storm but is not having a huge impact on the storm. It is about to go through an eye wall replacement which will help prevent the storm from strengthening.

Charleston, SC can expect tropical storm winds, even hurricane winds at times. Heavy rains will move onto the coast of SC and could affect all the way up to Columbia, SC. I would recommend staying away from local beaches as high surf will be occurring and possible storm surge.

Hurricane Irene: Advisory 14A

Hurricane Irene is currently a category 1 hurricane is still expected to become a category 3 hurricane as it approaches the east coast. It is expected to make landfall around 2 PM on Saturday on the outskirts of North Carolina as a major hurricane.....some say a category 4, I do not think it will be reach category 4. wind shear is beginning to be forecasted in the models and this will weaken the storm a little. Also the storm is heading over warm waters and this will help strengthen it. A little hard to tell how strong the storm will be. It seems that the forecast track is pretty set.

Those in South Carolina can expect heavy rain and wind. Haven't seen anything about a tornado threat yet. Possible storm surge as well as this storms moves past the SC coast.

Irene Hurricane Advisory #10

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) just issued their 10th advisory on hurricane Irene. The forecast track has moved a little more to the east and the storm is expected to make landfall now near Myrtle Beach, SC....it was forecasted to make landfall near Edisto Beach, SC. Irene has strengthened and is now a category 2 hurricane.

Here is the basic information on the hurricane:
LOCATION...19.7N 68.7W

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...100 MPH...160 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 295 DEGREES AT 10 MPH...17 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...981 MB...28.97 INCHES
A forecaster from the NHC has made an emphasis on focusing too much on the day 4 & day 5 forecast positions as the trend over the past years is that the forecast position has changed by 200 miles by the time that forecast verified. If you live on the South Carolina or North Carolina coast, continue to watch this storm. The next advisory will be out around 11 AM EDT.

Hurricane Season: Irene

Hurricane season is in full swing and it has been a pretty active season so far. We have had 9 named storms, you might have noticed only because they have not struck the US. However the current storm out there, Irene, is forecasted to hit Edisto Beach, SC on Saturday morning!

She is looking very impressive on satellite and is currently a category 1 hurricane. It is expected to be a category 3 hurricane when it makes landfall on Saturday. There are no physical hazards (mountains, land, etc.) in the path of the storm that would slow down and weaken her. There are no trofs or ridges forecasted to be moving through the area which would help move her more to the east.

The next forecast track should be out around 5 PM today. I will try to post as much as I can about Irene and keep those of you who read this from Charleston updated.

Some Assembly Required...

"And there came a day... a day unlike any other... when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat... to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand... on that day, The Avengers were born." - Nick Fury (Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

May 4, 2012 can not get here soon enough! This is the day that I will be in the theater watching The Avengers movie! If you know me then you know that I am a huge super-hero fan and my favorite super-heroes will all be one movie and it is going to be AWESOME! Pictures and videos have been coming out of filming locations around the country and I have enjoyed every bit of it. Can't wait to see the story, the action, and the geekness in the film!

Assemble!

It's Been a While....

....since I updated my blog.....2 weeks to be exact!

The past two weeks have been pretty busy/crazy! It all started with Miranda's wedding and it has been non-stop since then. My sister graduated with a masters in education, I have been catching up with Charleston friends before I left and then I moved back to Mobile for one more semester. I then worked 37 hours this past week and have set up my position to be a teacher position and then moved into my room and unpacked. All while seeing a few friends here and there this past week.

Today has been my chill day. Finished unpacking and settling into my room and I am now ready for my last semester here at South to begin! It's going to a sad/emotional one.....

Until next time....

Travel

This weekend I will be traveling all over the Carolinas!

Tomorrow (Friday) I will be leaving to go to Miranda Hayes' wedding in Monroe, NC. I will stay there from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening as I am going to leave after the wedding reception to head to Columbia, SC for my sister's masters graduation ceremony. I will stay there on Saturday night and then head back to Charleston for the last week of my vacation.

Here is a little side note: today I looked at my calendar for the month of August and wrote down all the football games, work schedules, and BCM events....its going to be a very busy week.

busy, busy, busy!

Very soon!

Summer classes end this Tuesday as I have two finals that day....Spanish 2 and a final for my internship (which is just a review of Synoptic). I have worked hard this Summer in Spanish 2 and I am going to make a B in the class! Woohoo!!

I have also been working at the bookstore this past summer and it has been crazy busy as we have moved to our newly renovated store. Everyday we have new product coming in and we have to race to get it to the floor to sell. We are gearing up for our grand opening in August!

The busy part of my summer is almost over and my relaxing part is near! I will be heading to Charleston in a week, for two weeks. Can't wait!

Until next time...

"Captain America: First Avenger" Review

Yesterday I saw Captain America with my Dad. I didn't go in with much expectations as I am personally not a fan of the super-hero....he seems quite boring to me. My expectations were met!

The plot was good but they took too long to explain some things making me bored. It all led up to this big fight between Red Skull and Capt and the fight was quite disappointing. The effects were good and the transformation of Captain America was great!

The most exciting part to me was the scene after the credits. As with all of the Marvel movies thus far, there has been a scene after the credits that lead up to The Avengers movie coming out next May! It was amazing and it was worth seeing Captain America just so you can see that preview.

In case you can't tell, I did not like Captain America. Overall I give it a C-.

Favorite Animation Movie

Now onto my favorite category: Animation Movies!!

If you know me, then you know I'm a huge Disney fan and of course Disney is known for their animation movies starting with Snow White up to Cars 2 and to future movies. You are probably thinking that I am going to biased and just say my favorite Disney movies (hmm.....might be my next post) but you are wrong! Recently Disney/Pixar has had some competition from Dreamworks, Paramount, and others have produced some great animation movies.

I will say that my top 5 is mostly Disney though and everybody should know from my facebook and twitter pages that my favorite movie is Toy Story and that is my favorite animation movie!

Here is my top 5 though:

1. Toy Story Franchise (include all 3)
2. Hercules
3. Prince of Egypt
4. Shrek Franchise (include all 4)
5. Monsters vs Aliens

So what is your favorite animation movie? Do you prefer Disney over the other companies?

I hope you enjoyed this "favorites" series! I had fun thinking about my favorite movies!

Favorite Drama Movie

I wonder which genre is bigger, action or drama??

I'll start right off the back and say that I'm going to exclude 'chick flicks'. I do like history drama movies such as Pearl Harbor. I also do like some, not all, sports drama movies.

So, my favorite drama movie is The Blind Side...I'm a huge Sandra Bullock fan!

Here is my top 5 drama movies:

1. The Blind Side
2. Twister
3. The Mighty Ducks
4. Remember the Titans
5. That Thing You Do

What is your favorite drama movie?

Favorite Comedy Movie

Yo! Wuz up? Guess what? Hold your breath.....it's time to reveal my favorite comedy movie!

I really don't have to think about this one but if I had to think about it, this would be my thought process:

First of all I do NOT like comedy movies such as Bad Teacher, Superbad, etc. I like to call this movies, "dirty" comedy movies, as they like to use sex and such to make people laugh. I like clean comedy movies such as Evan Almighty.

Therefore my favorite comedy movie is Mrs. Doubtfire! I absolutely love that movie....it cracks me up every time!

Honorable mentions include Evan Almighty, Jumanji, & Miss Congeniality.

What is your favorite comedy movie?

Favorite Action Movie

What a broad genre! It seems that every other movie that comes out, is considered an action movie. Out of the several action movies, I can determine my favorite action movie without much thought. It is a movie that just came out.....Transformers: Dark of the Moon. That movie is pretty much non-stop action and plus, I love the transformers (my favorite is Bumblebee)!

To me, the more the CGI there is, the better is! That is what I base my approval of an action movie. Here is my top 5 action movie:

1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
2. Transformers
3. Twister (will show up again in Drama post)
4. Day After Tomorrow
5. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

As you can tell I'm a fan of the more modern action movies and the classic movies, this can really be said for every genre.

Next category: Favorite Comedy Movie

Favorite Super-Hero Movie

Just in the past 2-3 years there have been several super-hero movies made from both comic publishers: Marvel & DC Comics. Marvel is currently beating DC Comics in the box office as they have made several more movies than DC Comics. Just this summer alone, Marvel has 3 movies (Thor, Cpt. America, & X-Men: First Class) out this summer and DC Comics has one movie (Green Lantern) out this summer.

I am going to exclude full-length animated movies made by both DC & Marvel. I am also going to exclude super-hero movies that are similar to Watchmen and just focus on the movies based on the more popular characters such as Spider-Man & Batman.

I am more of a fan of Marvel characters than the DC Comic characters but the movies that DC Comics make are produced much better than Marvel movies. The biggest example is Batman Begins & The Dark Knight. If I based off of just the total production of the movie and not the character or super-hero abilities, then I would go with The Dark Knight.

Based on character, my favorite super-hero from DC Comics is Green Lantern and I was a fan of the movie. My favorite super-hero from Marvel is "Gambit" from the X-men and he was featured in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but he didn't have a big part and was a somewhat minor character. I have always enjoyed the X-Men considering they have several mutant powers and each movie showcases something different. I would say that my favorite movie based on character is X-Men: First Class which is an origin movie for Prof. X & Magneto.

So, overall I would have to say that my favorite super-hero movie overall is X-Men: First Class. It was not a typical cheesy super-hero movie and has substance to it. I would say that it is equivalent to The Dark Knight in production quality. It had a very good storyline and was set in the 60s and put a different twist on a major history event, the Cold War. There it is, X-Men: First Class is my favorite Super-Hero Movie.

Wondering what came in second, here is my top 5 super-hero movies:

1. X-Men: First Class
2. The Dark Knight
3. The Green Lantern
4. Iron Man
5. Iron Man 2

This list can change by 2 movies coming out next summer: The Dark Knight Rises (DC) & The Avengers (Marvel).

Next category: Favorite Action Movie

Summer = Movies

As summer is here, movie madness is crazy!

This weekend alone I have watched about 5 movies....some at home and some in the theater. During the month of June I went to the theater 6 times!

Considering that this blog is about my life, and currently my life is consumed by movies, that is what I'm going to write about for a while. I have already written some reviews on the movies I have seen. I'm going to go through the following genres and say what are my favorite movie in that genre and then do my all-time favorite movies! Here are the categories:
  • Super-hero Movies
  • Action (excluding super-hero movies) Movies
  • Comedy Movies
  • Drama Movies
  • Animation Movies
Let's begin!

Birthday Celebration

Last Sunday was my birthday, in case you didn't know. It was a great birthday!

On Saturday night, a bunch of BCMers went out to eat to Olive Garden and then played Cranium and had cake. Sunday Braden and me went to church and then went to eat at IHOP (my choice). After that we went to go see Bad Teacher....not my favorite movie but it was pretty good. That evening we ordered pizza with Melissa and went to Best Buy. I bought Twister on blu-ray and an IPOD car player.

The celebration didn't end there! On Thursday night a bunch of MET friends went out to eat at Cracker Barrel and I had country fried steak....it was sooooo good!

That ended the celebrations. Great birthday indeed!

Bookstore Move

For the past week and a half the bookstore has been moving into their newly renovated store. The old store (on campus) was all lowered to one level and was expanded in size. The new store features 6 plasma TVs and a new snack area.

It is easier to tell the different departments now, with the softgoods (apparel) department being the biggest department in the store. All of the department got new fixtures and everything now matches. It brings the departments together and shows unity in the store.

A grand opening ceremony will take place in August, when the Fall semester starts. However the store actually opens up July 5th with a "soft" opening....meaning that the interior is done but exterior work is still taking place.

If you are on campus on July 5th, stop by!! The softgoods department has all new shirts, cups, etc!

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" Review

Transformers: Dark of the Moon starts out great by providing background information for the entire movie. It makes an interesting twist on the first man on the moon landing. After that part it continues with story-telling and it does get a little boring. It ends in a great way.

The movie is full of action and great special effects. There are a lot of plot twists that keep you interested in the movie. It is MUCH better than the 2nd Transformers movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be seeing it again tomorrow night in 3D.

Overall I would give the movie a B+ as the story telling could had been a little better in the end.

"Green Lantern" Review

Watched Green Lantern last night and I LOVED it!! I was afraid that Ryan Reynolds would not do a good job but he was great! He used his comedy background to add humor to the movie and it worked out greatly. The special effects were great especially since the costume was computer generated. They were creative in the use of the manifestations of the ring and kept things from being shown in the trailer, which was something I was worried about.

It is currently my favorite summer movie! Overall I would give the movie a A-! Tempted to go see it again.

The next movie to come out is Transformers: Dark of the Moon....might replace Green Lantern as my favorite movie. We shall see.

Until next time...

Upcoming Week

I'm looking forward to the upcoming week, well technically next two weeks!

This week the BCM is having a cook-out for those in Mobile. Should be pretty fun. I have a test in Spanish on Wednesday, not really looking forward to that. On Friday I'm going to go see Green Lantern and eat at Buffalo Wild Wings! I can't wait to see that movie!

The following weekend is my birthday (June 26). I already have two events lined up and ready. Should be a fun weekend for sure! Oh and Transformers: Dark of the Moon comes out June 29th!!

June has and will be a pretty fun month!

Until next time...

MTV Movie Awards

So I'm watching the MTV Movie Awards right now.

The movie awards are so biased! The winners are determined by votes sent in from the general public. The only problem with this is that every category containing anything related to Twilight, the winner is Twilight.

For example, there was the "best fight" category and there were some pretty good nominees including: Harry Potter, Inception, Twilight (2 different fights), and one other that I can't remember. One of the Twilight scenes won, even though in my opinion the Inception fight scene should of won!

This has happened in every category thus far and if Twilight is in the best movie category, I might as well not watch it. I know who is going to win.

Will be glad when that movie franchise is over with, it will give somebody else a chance to win!

"X-Men: First Class" Review

I saw X-Men: First Class today. My review: A

The story was great and the special effects were great as well. I love the x-men because it has so many great powers all in one group. This movie had so many mutants, it was great!

I also loved how the film was set in a different time period and not necessarily present day. It worked around a big moment in history, the Cold War. It worked well with this event and put a unique spin on it (not going to give it away for those who haven't seen it yet).

There was one graphic problem in a scene with Beast and there were some cheesy dialogue.

Overall very good movie.

Next two movies in the 2011 summer movie season: Super 8 & Green Lantern!

Until next time....

What a week!!

Man, what a week!

I traveled across three states starting last Saturday and made it to Mobile Sunday afternoon about 3:30 PM. I started to unpack that night. I spent Memorial Day unpacking, which consist of moving stuff from downstairs to upstairs. Tuesday was the start of class and my internship. Found out that day, that in my Spanish class, I have a test in a week....blah! We have covered 5 chapters since then and I have had a lot of homework. Wednesday was pretty chill, started to do my chores around the BCM. Went back to work in store at the bookstore. It was pretty exciting!

Thursday I a lot of errands to do and finished most of them. Also started to prepare for the pirate party I was planning on Friday. On Friday I woke up early to put things together for the party. Went to class and then to work. The party was right after work. It went very well!! We got down about 1 AM. I went to bed and woke up at around 9:30 AM and then started to clean. I've been cleaning all day and now I'm exhausted.

I am sitting here watching "Alias" and I feel like I'm brain dead. Yeah, what a week.....

Remind me of...

As you become closer to friends, certain things remind you of that person. Here is a list of the things that remind me of certain people....

- Braden Cheek: Sports....anything related to sports, especially football
- Colin Roeder: Bicycles. Obsessed with bicycles....well maybe not obsessed.
- BJ Smith: Batman. Now he is obsessed with Batman.
- Morgan Blankenship: Politics or cockroaches. She is terrified of cockroaches and loves politics.
- Christina Harris: Auburn clothes. She is always wearing a South & Auburn logo at the same time.
- Melissa Snow: Cows. She is always talking about her cows at home!
- Taylor Hamm: Anything involving a peace sign. Such a hippie!
- Jerrod Brown: Cheerwine. Something we both greatly appreciate.
- Rebecca Lawter: Sonics. She loves some sonics and always wants to go there!
- Shanita Grimes: Saw franchise. Loves the saw movies....I call her weird.
- Jaclyn Tisdale: Surfing. She is even has a surfing sticker on her car!
- Fred Schmidt: Pittsburgh Steelers. If you have seen his car, then you will understand.
- Tim Tackett: Golf cart crossing street signs. Better if you ask him about this one.
- Ashley Davis: Alabama football.

If I missed you and you would like to know what reminds me of you, comment below!

Pet Peeves

A lot of things that bother me but there are a few things that drive me crazy...

1. If you are invited to party or had made plans with somebody.....follow the plans. Don't come halfway through and come up with your own plans. First of that is very rude and it is sort of a slap to the face to the person who planned the party. It gives off a vibe that you are not enjoying yourself or that the party is not up to your standards of entertainment. If that is true then deal with it! You are a guest and that person most likely put a lot of planning into that party.

2. I am nobody's secretary. I do not like when people go through me to try to reach somebody else. Drives me crazy. If you can't reach that person then its your problem and not mine. I have to much on my plate to deal with your problems and mine.

3. Favoritism. Can't stand it. I have never been able to stand this. It drives me bananas when I see a person in a leadership positions [church, work, school, etc.] shows favoritism toward a person. They might try to hide it but it is visible in ways you might not see. Trust me, I'm not the only one seeing it and I'm not the only one that is bothered by it.

4. If you burp at the table, you better not blow it on me! That is extremely gross and rude! Trust me, you do not want to do this to me.......I will be quite upset.

That's all I got for now. Might post a second part later.

Until next time....

Summer Semester

Today starts the Summer semester at South. Only two more semesters to go!!

I am taking Spanish 2 and doing an internship with Coastal Weather Research Center, here on campus. I'm pretty excited about the internship, spanish....not so much. These two classes last the entire summer.

I will also be working back in store at the bookstore here on campus. Kind of excited about that. Also I am a summer resident manager at the BCM, along with Braden and Colin. It's going to be fun, if Braden stops calling me an idiot. Hahaha.

Anyways, gotta go!

Until next time!

For the past two weeks I have been in South Carolina visiting my family and friends in Charleston. I did a lot of driving back and forth between Alabama and South Carolina and had a lot of time of thinking. Both states are into football and have two major rivalries: Alabama vs Auburn & USC vs Clemson. I would say that these rivalries are as intense as the other and are not greater than the other. However I have noticed that the citizens of the two states show their pride in their state in different ways. I looked at the window decals and noticed one thing...

South Carolinian show their pride through the state tree, the palmetto trees. It is EVERYWHERE and in different designs. It doesn't represent USC or Clemson, it represents the state, a state that is united under the flag. Alabamians show their pride through their schools. I see decals for UA or Auburn all the time and not necessarily the state flag. I'm not saying that Alabama is not united in pride for their state. Just something I observed these past two weeks.
