Breakthrough

A lot has happened in the past month or so.

The most dominant thing is my growing desperation to return to Mobile. This really started when Christina told me that she was not going to make it to Charleston in January. This made me very sad as no one has come to visit SC yet but I have been back to Mobile twice since I have graduated. I was looking forward to Christina and Colin coming as this is was just the small taste of Mobile that I needed. I miss all of my friends greatly! Any job that opens up in Mobile or near Mobile I have applied for, trying to get to Mobile permanently or at least for a long temporary time.

This obsession to get Mobile also stems from the fact that I am in a runt. Everyday I sit around and do a bunch of nothing. Work has picked up a little but not as much as I wanted. I enjoy going to work because it gets me out of the house. I still haven't found a group of friends that I can constantly hang out with like I had in Mobile. My group of friend changes, at this point, seems like every month. I watched "End of Watch" the other day and the movie about best friends who would put their lives in jeopardy for each other. I desire to have that person. Am I ready to get married? Yes...kind of. But how am I going to find a girl when I don't hang out with people? Hmmmm.

This leads me to my next point. I left Ridge Baptist in the beginning of June and was visited churches and found one, Newspring Church. Great church with a lot of great people. The pastor had a message called "What's Next?" The message was mainly about people being baptized but the pastor also talked about asking God what to do next. God spoke to me to return to Ridge and help with the formation of a college-aged ministry as part of the leadership team. (Side note: This is also why I am missing Mobile being around college students.) We started and it is going great. However the bible studies tend to lean toward making future decisions in college life. The problem? I have been through this and am past it. This is one reason why I left Ridge because they didn't offer anything for my age group or group for recent graduates. So I am at tough spot. Did I truly listen to God or did I return to Ridge just because it was something to do. Tough spot to be in.

So the runt continues. Of course working at a retail store with a degree in meteorology and being rejected by each job application doesn't help.

I need something to happen, a breakthrough.

Catching Up

Nothing major has happened in the past two or so weeks. There have  been some pretty funny/cool moments....so let's catch up.

Work is going great. I am averaging about 20 hours per week....finally! A week doesn't go by in which I take up a new shift from somebody, so the hours continue to grow. The store is getting ready for the Christmas season already, which means even more hours. Score. Funny/awkward story from the other day....

I walked into the break room and was waiting for the time clock to turn so I could clock in. Two people were in the back, an older lady and mid-aged guy. The guy asked me if I worked with computers. I told him that I had a basic knowledge. He then asked if I could work on web-sites and said not really. HTML is not really my expertise. I told him that and his response was "oh, well I guess I can't tell you my idea." I was like okay. I then suggested that there are web-sites that help you design. His response was then "well my idea involves web cameras if you catch what I mean." I didn't catch it again and then I caught it. He realized that I caught it and was going on and on about how that industry is booming. In case you didn't catch it....he is talking about making a porn web-site. ................................ yeah he asked me to be a part of a porn web-site. Ummm, no thank you. And you shouldn't be asking that at work.........duh.

On non-work topic....I have officially left Ridge Baptist church. For a while it was held back but now the cat is out of the bag. It started when the music minister messaged me about going to a handbells meeting. I decided at this point that there was no point in holding back. I messaged him back and said that I no longer to Ridge but thanks for the invitation. He then consisted on asking where I was going. At this point I have narrowed it to two churches. What upsets me is that the minister went to the youth minister to ask about certain reasons why I left. Why not ask me? I'm not going to fret about it. RBC is behind me and it is now time to look forward. The two churches I'm looking at is Newspring Baptist and Northwood Baptist. Praying for guidance on which church to go to.

One last thing that has happened is that I made a decision to change the health of my body. I decided to start an exercise program, Insanity. I started it yesterday and wow it is tough! Today was rough but I have a support group and a coach and I will make it through the 60-day program. Hopefully I will be able to post results on here. I am pretty excited about it.

Well, that is a rough catch up.

Bye-Bye Summer

Everything associated with Summer.....heat, movies, beach....are all coming to an end. That's right, summer 2012 is in the record books and for me, it was not the best one. But I am not hear to talk about the past but the future.

September and October are turning out to be pretty good months. The main thing is all of the releases coming out. All of the summer movies are coming out in DVD starting with The Avengers on September 23. Once this starts it's a domino effect and pretty much every other two weeks, a new movie comes out. Yep, Avengers, Madea, Spiderman, and Dark Knight....those are the four I am looking for. Also NCIS Season 9 comes out, just in time for me to catch up before the new season starts.

Another slew of releases come out in September and October, but in the video game genre. October is the main month for video games and there are is a time when a new video game comes out every week. It starts out with "Epic Mickey 2" on October 2nd. This is a video game where they go through the history of Disney. Yeah......I'm a nerd, but it only gets worse. October 16th comes with the release of "Lego Lord of the Rings." I'm a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan and I thoroughly enjoy the Lego video games. Looking forward to this one. October 23 is when "Playstation All-stars" comes out. This one I am not too sure about. Going to wait to see what the reviews say before I buy this one. October ends with the release of "Assassin's Creed III." I have never played any of the franchise games but this one takes place during the American Revolution and looks great! That is all of the video games coming out that I am interested in.

Yea I am going to be spending a lot of money in September and October but to make up for this, I am starting to get more hours at Kohls. Speaking of Kohls, I am not a permanent employee and no longer in a trial period.

Well that is all that is happening in the near future. Should be fun.

A Little Venting

Yeah I know it's been almost a month since I blogged but I really don't have much to say besides venting for a moment.

This past week or so has sucked. I got back from a great trip in Alabama where I always doing something. I come back here and I am bored out of my mind.I tried to hang out with people but they are either busy, don't respond, full of drama, broke, or don't respond at all.

My friend has recently been going through a tough time with his family and he reached out to me and we started to hang out a lot. Something that hasn't happened since I moved back to Charleston. I actually was enjoying it. Sure there was the family issue to deal with but that is not why we were hanging out...or so I thought. In the past two weeks this friend hasn't even text me to hang out. It's almost like he fell off the face of the earth. I have tried to reach out to him but nothing has come back from it. To me it almost seems like I was just his crying shoulder and now that the issue is beginning to be resolved he doesn't need me anymore. Great feeling...........just being there for hard times and no more depth to the friendship.

Another friend is about to drive me crazy. His lack of dedication is so horrible. I hung out with him almost everyday right when I moved back. Then I left the church and he hasn't text me since then. It seems like he only hung out because he was getting something in return as I helped out at the church. I decided to try that theory this week and suggested he text me if he needed help with an event coming up this Saturday. He said he would text me for sure. He did text me on Monday and asked what I was doing. I wrote back and said "nothing." No response back. Weird. Yesterday he text me again and asked if I was working last night. I said no. No response back. To me it seems that my theory is coming true. He casually mentioned we are going to get lunch either today or tomorrow. Let's just say that I am not holding my breath.

There are other people who are broke and don't respond. The person who doesn't respond is my cousin.....how about that?

I am so ready to move out of this house and out of this city and start over all fresh.

Good Month

This month is going to be great! Been pretty good so far!

I am starting to get more hours at Kohls which is a great thing! July 4th I had to work thought but it will be a pretty good paycheck :D The good month continues to go on this past few days with Shanita and Trikia coming into town and we all got ice cream and played games until 3 AM!

The rest of the month is going to be a blast! I work everyday except Friday. Then I have a few days off in which I will be packing! Where am I going you ask.....well ALABAMA! I am finally returning to Alabama for a few days. I leave next Tuesday and stay until the following Sunday. I am going down for Colin and Christina's wedding and to see everybody down there. I am so looking forward to it and can't wait!

As soon as a get back, on July 23, WWE Raw celebrates its 1,000th episode! It is going to be EPIC with legends returning and some major plot twists. After this every episode will be 3 hours long.

After the 23rd, nothing much is going to happen but after all the stuff going on in the next two weeks, it might be nice to relax.

Let's do this!

Celebrities

Recently I have been thinking about the life of a celebrity and comparing celebrities to celebrities.

This all started when I saw "The Amazing Spiderman" which stars Andrew Garfield. He portrayed Peter Parker in a great way....as an awkward teenager trying to find his way. I was watching/reading some articles on the movie with Andrew and he said that he is just as awkward in real life as the way he acted in the movie. He was very humble in the interviews and seemed like a very down to earth guy. I kind of want to meet him. I think me and him would get along just great.

This started this whole thinking process of celebrities. Now a days with social media and apps such as Instagram, it is easier to get a sneak peek into the lives of celebrities. For example, I follow Channing Tatum on Instagram and he posts photos of him just chilling around and living a life. He seems like a down to earth guy. There are a ton of celebrities that seem like great people that I would like to meet. Such as Emma Stone....co-star in spiderman. She is cute and funny, from the interviews that I have seen.

So I have been speaking about a lot of celebrities that are down to earth. There are also celebrities that live in the life of drugs and alcohol and those who give off a vibe of stubbornness. One of these celebrities is the biggest one right....Justin Bieber. This week he has said that he could take other celebrities in a fight and got caught speeding and in his interview he seemed like it was not a big deal. Sure speeding is not a big deal but don't give off an attitude of you are being better.

With all of this celebrity stuff, I kind of wish I was working in Hollywood. Isn't there an NWS office there? Yes there is. Who knows. Maybe I will end up there.

A While

Wow....it's been a while since I have blogged as I have not been in the mood to blog. A lot has happened over the past few weeks, but not motivation to write it down. To be honest, I don't have much motivation right now but I am bored haha.

So yeah here are a few things that have happened over the past few weeks:
  • SCDOT job didn't work out. The said I was going to start on June 17th but they never called. I took this as a sign I didn't get it. I never contacted them, but I never really wanted the job. So I am now focusing all of my attention at Kohl's. I am about to start new things at Kohl's including sales floor and other positions....AKA getting more hours :)
  • Sister came down for a Saturday and we went to the beach. Pretty fun trip. My nephew and niece crack me up. We caught three fish and two crabs. One fished died but my niece (a big animal lover) said it was sleeping.
  • I semi-left Ridge as I am starting to look for a new church. Really haven't had a chance to look yet. Every Sunday something has come up and I couldn't visit new churches. I ended up playing piano at Friendship Baptist Church the past two Sundays to fill in for my aunt. It was great to be playing piano again. I won't be able to visit new churches until July as my sister is coming back down for the weekend and staying through my birthday.
  • The last big thing that happened, actually happened today. The alumni of the Stratford High Marching Band learned some bad news this morning. A girl named Patty passed away in a car accident in TN. From the news report, her husband was driving and fell asleep and she was partially ejected out of the car. This was a huge shock to everybody in the band and facebook exploded with the news. Very sad news.
Well that is pretty much a quick update. Some exciting stuff coming up this week as my birthday is in 6 days! :D

Relief!

This morning I went into to work to discuss with the HR manager the consequences of me missing my shift on Tuesday night.

First of all the HR manager is one of my favorite managers as for one he is a guy (we are very few at the store) and he is pretty close to my age. So after hardly any sleep I called into the store to see if he was there and then headed up there. I walked into his office and he asked the general questions about how I was doing. It must have been pretty obvious that I was stressed out as he then said "so you made an oops." Haha. I learned then that things move quickly through the store as he already knew that I was showed up, just on the wrong day.

He then went into a discussion that about how each employee gets 3 "no show, now call." However he told me that he was not going to count this one against me since technically I did show up, just the wrong day. What a relief! He then said that most everybody in the store has done it at least once. He even said that a few weeks ago he showed up at 5 AM to a shift that he was not scheduled for.

I am very thankful for my job and the people at Kohls. It is a great company and has a lot of great people in it.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

I made a VERY stupid mistake at work...

I was scheduled for "price change," which is where we go in over night and check every clearance item to see if the price stays the same and or goes up. Pretty simple.

Well I was scheduled to work tonight [Wednesday] from 10 PM to 6 AM. I went in tonight and there was pretty much nobody there. I walked around for a while and some lady asked me if I needed help with anything. I told her I was there for the price change shift. She looked at me and said "that was last night." ...............................................................................are you serious? Yes I missed a shift. Luckily my ad set supervisor was there so I rushed to her and asked what I should do. She said talk to the manager on shift, whom I have not met before tonight.

I go up to her and tell her who I was. Immediately she said "oooh. you are the one who missed your shift last night." Gggggrrrreeeaaattt. Even people I don't know, are aware that I missed last night. She said I had to fill out a form and go talk to the HR supervisor in the morning and tell him the situation. I am freaking out inside, considering that I have a "no call, no show" on my work record and I have only been there for a month. I asked my supervisor if I would get in trouble and she said that considering I showed up, just on the wrong day, probably not. Still freaking out.

Stressed. Stressed. Stressed.

Hiking Trip

Linville Gorge

Chris -- Our Guide for the Hike

FIRE POWER!

My view for lunch on Saturday

Discussing where to put up hammocks and such.

Our group from L to R: Brad, Broc, Chris, Me

Linville Gorge
Above are some of the trips from my hiking trip over the past weekend. It was a GREAT trip! Here is a quick summary:

Thursday started off early with waking up at 6 AM and leaving by 7:30 AM after a quick breakfast meal at McDonald's. Roughly 5 hours later we arrive to the gorge and the adventure begins. We started off on the Pinchin Trail, which is considered a difficult trail on the scale for the gorge. It was downhill but very steep. To me this was a very easy part. Sure it was steep but it was downhill and so went pretty quickly. We reached the bottom of the gorge in 2 hours and decided to go ahead and camp for the night. We camped right by the river. I slept in a tent and the other three slept in hammocks. We woke up pretty chilled so started a fire, ate breakfast, and took off.

This was the only day that was completely full of hiking. We followed the river for about 2 miles. At the bottom of the C. Cove trail we took a lunch break. It was a relaxing time as I stuck my feet in the river and enjoyed a nice meal. We all took naps and then started the hike up the trail. Right before we took off, I landed on my left leg wrong and sprained my knee a little. So going uphill was a little rough. I pushed through it (with some help of aleve) and we made it up to the top in about 4 hours. We found our campsite for the night and then separated and did different things. I took a little nap and just relaxed. We all came back and just hanged out around the fire. Went to bed pretty early.

Saturday we slept in and then packed up and headed to an outlook post called "Wiseman's View." This outlook showed over half of the gorge. It was a beautiful site. This is where the last picture was taken. We left the gorge around 11 and then drove to Asheville area where we ate our first meal. We stopped at T.G.I.Fridays and enjoyed a great meal. I ate a Jack Daniels Cheeseburger and fries. We left and arrived back to SC around 6.

Left out a lot of the fun stories and such but they are more fun in person haha. Overall a great trip!

Job(s) Update

I was able to get off for the weekend so I will for sure be going on the hiking trip this weekend! Pretty excited!

As I mentioned before, there was a concern that this would put me in jeopardy for my 90-day trial period. I asked my supervisor about it and she said that as long as you get someone to take your shift (which is what I did for both scheduled days), then it won't count against you. The week or so that I take off for the wedding will count for me but when I had my interview, I specifically asked if this would be a problem and the hiring manager said no. Therefore I am fully set! :D

I also signed the last bit of paperwork for the DOT job today and my start date is going to be around June 4th. I am getting a little more excited about the job now that it is beginning to become more of a reality.

Well, that is all the updates I have for now. Will definitely blog about my hiking trip when I get back!

Thoughts Of The Day

Haven't blogged in a while and here are some the things on my mind right now...

I have asked off of work for the weekend to take a hiking trip with some friends. I am taking a HUGE risk in the fact that I am in a trial period for the first 90 days of my employment. If I miss a lot of days then they will terminate me at the end of the 90 days. To counter this I am doing a few things to show that I like working at Kohl's, which I do! The other night I had my first overnight shift and it was supposed to be from 10 PM to 6 AM but we weren't able to finish before six. I volunteered to stay behind and help finish up after everybody left. I ended up staying until about 10 PM. I did this to help out the boss and mainly because I wasn't really tired. I am hoping that this doesn't come back to haunt me.

Another thing on my mind is a new job. I eluded to this in a previous post. Last Wednesday I received a phone call from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in regards to my interview I had with them a few months ago. They offered me a job with the sign crew. I went ahead and accepted the offer as it has better pay and is full time. The hours are M-F 8 AM to 4 PM and some weekends. This works out with my Kohls job as it is typically only nights and is still doable. My start date is going to be around June 1. If this job or Kohls doesn't work out, I guess I have the other job to rely on. If it comes down to it, I would rather keep the Kohls job than do the SCDOT job. Guess we shall see.

Speaking of jobs, the new job and the 90 day trial at Kohls put me in a tough spot for the end of July. That is the wedding for Colin and Christina, in which I am a part of. I was planning on taking a whole week off of to spend some time down in AL so I could see everybody. With the new job, this might be a little difficult. It takes two days to travel back and forth and the wedding is a two day event. I guess I could leave that Wednesday and return Sunday, so I would only have to take off 3 days from SCDOT and 5 days from Kohls. Guess we shall see.

Lots going on. I ask for you to pray for me so that I make the right decisions and that everything works out. Thanks.

Past 24 Hours

The past 24 hours have been crraaaazzzzzyyy! Some of the things that have happened I can't go into too much detail (yet) but here is what has happened:

Wednesday started off a normal day but I received a call around 4:30 PM from a business offering me a job. Unfortunately this is not where I can't go into too much detail but I will hopefully be able to very soon! This offer set things in motion that I did not expect.  Wednesday ended with Broc and Chris texting/calling me practically begging me to call Kohls to change my schedule next weekend so I can go on a hiking trip with them. I talked to Broc about it and we came up with a plan and so far that plan is working!

I work next Thursday and Saturday, and the trip is Thursday morning through Saturday night. My Thursday shift has been taken care of and the Saturday shift has been pretty much taken care of as well but won't know 100% sure until Monday afternoon. If this works out then I will be hiking next weekend. Um. I have never hiked in my life so this should be interesting and should produce a lot of stories.

Back to the crazy 24 hours. Today was the main part that was just crazy. This morning was a pretty busy morning. This afternoon one of the strongest thunderstorms hit Goose Creek and dumped a ton of rain. I will have to look up how much rain fell today. I know some areas were reporting 4 inches of rain in less than an hour! Crazy! In the middle of this crazy storm I ended up going to a 2nd grade class and we did the tornado in a bottle experiment. It turned out great! After that I went to work and worked 6 - 1045 in which the power went out and I actually did great unsupervised. Great past 24 hours but man am I tired!

Finishing up my piece of cherry cheesecake and then I'm hitting the hay. Hope everyone is having a great day!

EPIC!

The amazing entertainment on television right now continues with season finales all this week!

It all started with the series finale of Desperate Housewives and it did not disappoint! It was a great way to end 8 season of the show and featured every person that appeared on the show. I love how they did that, brought back people from 8 seasons and featured them all in one episode.

Monday night didn't feature any finale for me but did feature a premiere....America's Got Talent! One of my favorite reality shows. They have a new host, Howard Stern, who is very controversial but I think he brings a lot more humor to the show. He is very blunt in his opinions on the contestants but in a very funny way. I was literally cracking up the other day when I watched it. Also the new season has a good vibe as promo videos seem to be better quality and it gets me excited haha.

Last night was the season finale of NCIS. I am following the actor and actress of "Tony" and "Abby" on Twitter and they have been tweeting that it was going to be an "explosive" finale and sure enough it was. Not to give anything away but the fate of every team member in jeopardy. Great finale but I can't wait until the season premiere! Hahaha. Never satisfied.

Time Machine

I wish I had a time machine (who doesn't?) to fast forward to some big events coming up, first up the end of July.

That is when Colin and Christina get married and when I return to Mobile! I have been missing Mobile greatly and can't wait to return and see everybody for a while! I am hoping to get a whole week off of work so I can enjoy a nice vacation in Alabama.

Now fast forward to May 2013:

This is when Iron Man 3 comes out and the beginning of the build up to Avengers 2. Yeah thats right, they are started over with movies that lead up to the Avengers again. I then want to fast forward to Thor 2 in November 2013 and then Captain America in 2014. There is still and untitled movie coming out in 2014, speculation is that it is going to be an 'Ant Man' movie but we shall see.

Now fast forward to Summer 2015:

AVENGERS 2!!! It has not been officially announced as this is the release date but most of the people who making a living out of analyzing movies has said that the date will be 2015.

Yes. I wish I had a time machine. Waiting 3 years for another Avengers movie is a long time, of course in retrospect I waited 6 six years for the Avengers so 3 won't be that bad.

Whale Wars: Viking Shores

"Whale Wars" is TV series in which the conversation group, Sea Shepherds, battle with the Japan in the Antarctica over the killing of several species of whales. According to the group they have been very successful and this upcoming season is supposed to be the most violent and most entertaining. The new season premieres June 1 and I can't wait!

However until then they have a related show airing now called "Whale Wars: Viking Shores." It is focuses on the Faroe Islands, which is between Iceland and Scotland. The people on these islands have a ritual called the grind in which tens of boats form a semi-circle and bring in tons of pilot whales toward the shore where hundreds of people wait to run into the water and kill the whales. According to the show, the whales are used to feed the people on the islands. The Sea Shepherds believe the Grind is violent and too deadly for the whales. They have a land, air, and sea crew and are aimed at preventing the Grind, which is illegal on the islands and could lead up to 4 months in prison.

To me I don't see the big deal about it. It's not like the killing of the whales is making the whale population go extinct or are the species endangered. I agree with their campaign against the Japan as that is a much bigger killing but this seems a little more provoking than conservation. Needless to say, it is still pretty good entertainment. I am ready for Whale Wars to return on June 1 though!

Getting/Am Sick

Woke up this morning with a killer headache and a slight soar throat. I know I haven't been getting great sleep the past week or two, so I kind of expected this. Been relaxing and taking it easy today.  I just hope it doesn't last that long as the weekend is here and I have a few things planned that I was looking forward to!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Next chapter

Speaking of next chapter (see blog post below), I am really working on getting into the next chapter.

It is a small chapter but a new chapter nonetheless. This next chapter consists of moving out and getting a job. In case you didn't know, I got the job at Kohls so technically I already started the new chapter. The moving out part is a work in progress.

David (my cousin), Chris Ayer, and me are in talks of getting an apartment/renting a house together. I have been looking at houses for rent and there are not that many out there that we like. On Sunday we are going to look into getting an apartment and go through some apartment finder booklets. There are pros and cons of each scenario and we have to weigh each option. Either way though we will move out. I can guarantee it!

Tough but yet fun decisions coming up!

Turning The Page

The other day I was talking to a good friend about life and where we were in life. We are both at the same point in life but not really. He is looking to go into the Navy to go to school for nuclear stuff and then hopefully to move back to SC. He has signed up and everything and is working on losing the weight. I am a graduate with a bachelors degree working on getting that meteorology job. So we are both waiting/preparing for that next stuff.

The coolest thing about the conversation was the analogy he came up with for the current state of our lives. This is how he put it...

We are both reading a book and about to turn the page but something or someone attracts our attention and we can't quite turn that page yet. As soon as that distraction or need is taken care of, we can turn that page and enter the next chapter. We are ready to turn that page but can't, not yet at least.

Thought it was a cool analogy. Sounded more impressive in person haha.

Favorite TV Time

This time of the year is my favorite when it comes to TV shows = finale season!

This season has been 5 - 10 months in the making and it makes for great television.

I am following only show really at this time and that is NCIS! It has always been one of my favorite shows and has had some major twists and turns in the past. This season has been a little boring but that has all changed in the past 2-3 episodes. The season finale is next Tuesday and it is going to be crazy. Michael Weatherly, who plays, Tony tweeted that everybody should bring tissues Tuesday for the episode. There has been a focus on Gibbs but I think they might throw a twist in there with Tony and Ziva. We shall see.

Another show that I have been following is Desperate Housewives. I have been following it since the beginning and it is filled with drama. This is the final season for the show and there have been some MAJOR twists. It call comes down to a 2 hour episode on Sunday. Exciting stuff!

One show that I wish I watched was "Once Upon A Time." It is based of Disney fairy tales such as Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, and Cinderella. I was skipping through and caught part of an episode but was a little confused on what was happening. When it comes out on DVD, I will have to rent it for sure.

Still looking for that show that will replace Heroes though.

Love this season of television and great entertainment!

Early Morning/Late Night

At what times does it become morning? When the sun is rising? When it hits midnight?

It is currently 2:24 AM on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, and I am mostly awake! I had to work tonight and went in at 7 PM. I knew we would be busier than the previous night because we had a big ad drop on Wednesday, but didn't realize just how busy. We didn't leave the store until 1:30 AM! Talk about a wake up call. Don't get me wrong, I am glad for the hours and the job. My body is not grateful for the weird hours.

I got out of the store and I was STARVING! Unfortunately not many people are awake at 1:30 in the morning so I couldn't find anyone to go to Waffle House with me. I ended up going to Wally World and picking up some stuff. An hour later I am sitting in my living room eating two hot pockets and a cup of sweet tea. I am going to have to work on a new food schedule but this is not going to work out!

My Job

I officially started my job tonight and I think I'm going to really like it!

I am doing several things at Kohls and only started with one of my tasks and that is "asset." Basically they go around and replace the sale signs. We have to scan each sign and the little computers tell us whether or not the sign needs to be replaced. We do each section and then print out the signs. After that we go around and replace the signs that need to be replaced. Sounds boring to some but its great because you don't have to worry about customers and work by yourself but also collectively as a team. Pretty cool stuff.

The most interesting part of the job is the schedule and the people. The Asset Team consists of me and 5 other older ladies. When I say older I mean roughly around 40-50 years old. This could get very interesting and entertaining very quickly. They all seem very nice except one, she gives off the impression she doesn't like many people. That alright though, I'm going to engulf her in niceness :)

As for the other part, the schedule, when I am scheduled to work I work 7 to midnight. They said on extremely busy nights they could be there until 2 AM. Not a huge deal. Tonight according to them was a very easy night and we were out by 10:40 PM. I pretty glad of this schedule because this is great practice for when I get my actual meteorology job and the crazy schedule that comes with it.

Here is my schedule for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: 7 PM - midnight

Next week is the crazy schedule:

5/15: 7 PM - midnight
5/17: 7 PM - midnight
5/18: 2 PM - 4 PM (not sure about this one)
5/19: 10 PM - 6 AM (this will be very interesting)**

**This is where I am doing something else besides Asset and forgot to ask my manager about it.

Looking forward to new challenges and to get to know this ladies! Hahaha.

Kentucky Derby

Today is the Kentucky Derby and I just wanted to give my opinion on this two-minute race...

I think it is dumb! It is a two minute race and I don't see how it is a "sport." To me it seems that the horses do all of the work and the jockeys don't do much. They hit the horses to go faster and I don't think that actually makes them faster. I have only watched it once and I was shocked at how fast it was over and to think people spend a fortune on the event. Blows my mind.

I would much rather watch football than the Kentucky Derby, and I hardly watch football.

Drama.......

I hate drama. I use to thrive on drama but now a days I hate it! I REALLY hate it when it comes out of no where and could have been prevented if it was brought up sooner.

During the day yesterday drama was started on Facebook  and that is the worse place! It didn't involve me but I wanted to step in because it was so ridiculous. Here is sort of what happened...

For clarification we call my friend Bob and an acquaintance of mine that started the drama Jeff.

This is a statue updates from Bob and comments from Jeff:

Bob: I need to buy an Avengers t-shirt before the movie tonight!
Jeff: Someone geeking out?
Bob: Uhhh yeah its a special night.
Jeff: As special as your daughter being born? Did you get a daughter shirt for her birth? Just sayin'.

Really? Did he just go there? "Jeff" has 3 kids and is heavily involved in exercise programs such as P90X and Insanity and if you look at his Facebook that is all he posts about and he is constantly wearing shirts about it. Does he wear shirts about his kids? I have never seen one........................this made me upset as this is a person from church. Is that how we are supposed to treat each other? Its not like Bob doesn't provide for his two kids. His youngest child is pretty chunky (Bob says this about the child and its not just me) so obviously that child is not going hungry. So what if he wants an Avengers t-shirt? Don't ruin a person's interest in something with your crap.

In case you were wondering Bob did buy a t-shirt and wore it proudly at the premiere.

Drama continued last night with me and another person that should had been dealt differently and not through a text message and at 4 AM this morning.

Ugh. Drama is so dumb. You would think living 10 hours away from someone would prevent drama but it doesn't.

Backing Off

Over the past month or so, all of my social media sites, including this blog have been consumed by The Avengers. It is time to back off now that I have seen the movie. I believe it is time to back off some. I really don't have much to say about the movie anymore besides go see it.

So here i my public statement saying that I am backing off. Starting with Facebook today! Need to change my profile pic.

Oh and the next big movie to me is "The Dark Knight Rises" but I am not going to talk as much about that movie.

Last Night!

Last night was great! It was full of boredom, drama, action, and comedy!

First of all, Kohl's orientation. Orientation was from 630 - 930 last night at some points it was soooo boring. We had to watch a video about the history and all this other stuff about the company. I really do not like those videos as the people narrating it pretend they have no clue what is going on even though they are most likely reading a script. Ugh. I found out what I would be doing. I am on the "assets" team which go around and replace the sale signs. Usually this shift is around 8 PM to midnight which is my first shift on Sunday. Pretty excited. Got my name tag and everything. Finally it is official, I am employed!

Now onto the Avengers! I arrived to the theater around 10 PM and waited until the first person to show up at 10:25 PM. Everyone gradually started to show up. We were about 10th in line which isn't too bad. We ended up sitting together which is the most important to me. We entered the cinema around 11 and just sat around and waited. The movie it was self was GREAT! A great blend of all the superheroes with a good mixture of comedy and action. I was totally geeking out with everybody else and I was completely cool with that! Everyone had a good time and it was cool to see with some of my closest friends here.

After the movie is when the drama came up. Drama from Alabama...........sigh. Not going to go into detail. But it was a friend who text me and told me I don't keep in contact with her basically.....even though we talked less than a month away. Really? A great way to end my morning which ended about 4 AM. On top of this I drank a voltage and couldn't fall asleep until about 5 AM. My body decided to wake up at 9 AM even though it is still sleepy. Silly body.

Overall a great night! I would recommend the movie if you are a superhero fan.

Meteorology Job

Even though I got the job at Kohls, that will not be my career job.

About two weeks I applied for a job at Stennis Space Center as an Oceanographer/Mathematician. About a week ago I received an e-mail saying I was recommended to the hiring official. This was significant as this was the first time this happened on USA Jobs. However yesterday I received another email saying I was not selected.

I really wanted this job as it would get me closer to Mobile and it seemed like an interesting job.

Sometimes I feel like Charleston is a prison and I can't escape. When I saw that first e-mail I thought that was the escape I needed. Guess that escape is not the one I was looking for. The escape will come!

Today Is The Day!

Today is going to be great!

I am right now watching "Survivor: Australian Outback," my favorite Survivor season. Just taking the day slow until tonight, when the real fun begins!

Tonight the Avengers come out!!!!!!! I am soooo excited! Before that though I have orientation at Kohls and actually start my job....finally!

Yep, it is going to be a great day!

Adventurous

I am possibly going to do something crazy/adventurous! I might hike a trail!

Assuming that I can get off of work, I am going to go hike a trail with 3 other guys from church. Can't remember the name of the trail but I do know that it is in North Carolina. This is crazy in the fact that I am not the outdoor person and that I have never hiked a trail before. I am actually pretty excited about it and praying that I can get off of work. The trip is schedules for the end of May. Will be updating throughout the month!

Ready For Thursday

Who is ready for Thursday? Thats right, me! Thursday night is the night the Avengers comes out, BUT I am not going to talk about that any more. I am sure that you, my reader, is exhausted/bored of me talking about what is to be probably the most epic movie ever. Something else happens on Thursday.

I start my job at Kohls. I was supposed to start last Tuesday but a computer issue delayed the orientation to this upcoming Thursday. I am excited and nervous. I am ready to get out of this house and be productive and make some money! Granted it is a part-time job but it is better than sitting around watching movies all day. It should be fun and challenging as I learn new things about the retail business.

Yep Thursday is going to be a great day!

Final Countdown!

The week has finally arrived! The week in which the Avengers comes out!

In approximately 3 days twelve of my closest friends and me will be assembling in Summerville to see the movie! Can. Not. Wait!

That time cannot come soon enough!

Each day leading up to the premiere I am wearing a Marvel t-shirt each day (minus Tuesday since I won't be seeing a lot of people). Last night I wore my new Iron Man t-shirt at the Avengers party I hosted. A great success. Today I am wearing my Captain America and Friends t-shirt which has images of Thor, Iron man, Spiderman, Hulk, and Luke Cage. Wednesday I am wearing the Avengers t-shirt my cousin gave me and then thursday i am wearing my NEW avengers t-shirt, my most favorite.

Yep, going to be a great week!

"Hunger Games" Series Review

I just finished the "Hunger Games" book series that consist of "Hunger Games," "Catching Fire," and "Mockingjay." It is a pretty easy series to read but full of twists and turns.

My favorite book was "Catching Fire" as this is the one book that had the most twists and turns. Not to give anything away in case any of you want to read it but it goes a complete opposite direction that you thought it was going. The last book was pretty predictable. It still had a few moments where you are shocked at what happened.

Overall the book has a  love story but the best thing is that it doesn't completely consume the story and background information. The story focuses more on Katniss trying to discover herself while she is thrown in a brutal world. The scary thing about the books is that it could one day become true. It is very relevant to the world as it is today.

Pretty anxious to see how they bring the last two books to the big screen in the coming years. I would definitely recommend it.

Talking Down

There are several things that bug me in this world. Stupid drivers. Immature people. Etc.

One thing that really, really, really, really, really, really annoys me is when people talk down to me. What makes it worse is that it happens at church. A certain staff member does this to everyone. Before I got a job at Kohls he was keep saying that I wasn't looking hard enough and that I need to apply to certain places. One of those was a company called Boeing here in Charleston. They build airplanes and they mainly look for engineers. Why would I apply for that? Don't be dumb.

This past Wednesday he went to far and I almost hit him. I respect him as an elder but what he said was ridiculous. He was asking what I would be doing at Kohls and I told him a general thing and really didn't want to go into details with him because that would require him to continue talking to me. He then says, "ah they will probably have you cleaning things since I am new." Did you not just hear what I said? I told him what I would be doing and I said nothing about cleaning. Again, don't be dumb. You are probably thinking, "why did this make Sam mad?" Well his next sentence is what made me mad. He said "you do know how to use a vacuum right?" Yea.......he went there. I am 22 years old, about to turn 23 in 6 weeks and he asked if I knew how to operate a vacuum?!?!?!?!?! I said "yea" and then went back to what I was doing. Idiot.

People wonder why I want to leave Ridge. In 5 weeks that will happen! It is sad that I am so excited about leaving a church but that was the last straw. I can last 5 more weeks....I think.

Wild

The last few days have been pretty wild. Monday I hung out with Mom ALL day. We left the house at 11:15 AM and didn't pull into the driveway until 7:00 PM! Normally people would enjoy spending time with their Mom and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for the first two hours or so. We went store to store, just shopping. She did take me to BAM but they didn't have what I wanted. After lunch I was ready to go back to the house and just chill. After we finally got home I went over to a friends house around 10 and watched wrestling. It was a 3-hour episode and I was so ready to go to bed. I actually went to sleep while watching it. It was a very boring episode.

Tuesday is when the fun stuff happened. I volunteered at the NWS-CHS from 9 AM to 330 PM! All I did was just shadow a forecaster but it was pretty cool to see how they forecast. Pretty close to how we did it in Synoptic class. During our lunch break I checked my e-mail and facebook and stuff. I received an e-mail from the Department of Navy saying that I my application for Oceanographer was transferred to the hiring officer! This was great news as this means I am one step closer to getting an actual adult job. I believe I have a very good chance in getting this job. After volunteering I just chilled around the house looking forward to a new NCIS.....only problem was there was a replay that night. Ugh. Went to bed pretty early.

Wednesday I got up and cut the grass. After that I worked on the RBC homecoming video. Pretty simple video but it gets the point across. Then went up to the church and to do regular Wednesday activities. There were a few things that bothered me though. A will write a post about it next. After that I went back home and just relaxed.

Today consisted of my cousin's birthday. I started to hang out with around 1 and left about 5 to eat dinner with my Dad and Grandpa at Cracker Barrel. yum! I went to the mall and spent too much money. Bought two comic books, a DVD, and a t-shirt. Now I am writing some blog posts, sipping on sweet tea and watching wrestling.

Doesn't sound so wild but trust me, when you go from doing nothing each day to four full days of activities, it seems very wild.

Today is Not The Day

Yesterday I received a phone call from Kohls saying that my orientation date has been moved from today to May 3rd due to a computer system flaw. Not a huge deal, as I get to enjoy a few more days of freedom. This also means that all the avengers things I have planned are going to happen starting this Sunday with an avengers party and the showing of Captain America.

This is going to be a great party. I am going to go get some avengers plates and possibly an avengers cake! Can't wait.

Back to the actual topic...

So today won't be a busy as originally thought. About to head up to NWS-CHS to do some shadowing. A little tired so hopefully its entertaining or interesting.

Next Three Days

This is not about the movie starring Russel Crowe. This is literally about my next three days. One word: hectic.

Today I am spending the day with Mom doing shopping, which is what we have been doing the past two days she has had off. Then working on a video for the church that is premiering next Sunday and I haven't started on it....oops. After that it is WWE Raw, which is a special 3 hour episode tonight. Unfortunately we are starting at 10 PM....blah.

Tomorrow is the biggest day. I am shadowing at the NWS from 9AM - 4PM and then its back home for a quick bit and then off to Kohl's for orientation from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM. Going to be the longest day I have had since I graduated in which I am actually doing things.

Wednesday is a so-so day. Mainly spending the day working on the church video then its church that night....assuming I am not working. We have a committee meeting where I am going to present part of the video for reviews and suggestions.

Yep pretty hectic. Mom is coming downstairs which means that my hectic three days are about to begin. Later alligator!

Mediocre Weekend

My weekend in a few sentences...

Friday night hung out with Tim and his family. Ordered pizza and watched The Hulk in preparation for, yep you guessed it, The Avengers (one more week!). Had a very good, interesting conversation with him after the movie. Very personal so for those nosey people out there, I can't talk about it.

Saturday left for Columbia around 7 AM for a day filled of children and partying. Went to the "My Little Pony" party for my niece on this farm. They had tons of animals, so that was pretty entertaining for about 30 minutes. There was nobody there my age so after that it was pretty boring. We left there and went to my nephew's baseball game. Sat with my sister and the place we sat with was the prime spot for foul balls and we almost got hit about 3 times. Left there and went to her house to prepare for the family party. That was pretty good. Left and got home by 10 PM....man I was ready to be home. Finished the day off with some Hunger Games reading.

Sunday was just a normal sunday for the most part. Went to church and then went to over to a friend's parents house. We had roast beef, potatoes, carrots, peas, fruit salad, and blackberry pie. I only liked the first 3 things so I had to force myself to eat the rest. Peas are disgusting. Came home and got in trouble for not telling Mom where I went even though I called twice....when can I move out? Spent the afternoon napping and cleaning for the showing of "Thor" that night. A lot more people came and we had chicken wings, brownies, and other fatty foods....not by my choosing....jaclyn. After that spend some more time reading.

Yep just a mediocre weekend.

Update: Fun Weekend Ahead?

Slight change of plans...

We are still going to Columbia but not spending the night. We are leaving at 7 AM saturday morning. Rough. we are going to pretty much spend the whole day there. I am looking forward to this trip more now that we are not spending the night. So maybe this will be a fun weekend, just have to find something to do tonight!

Fun Weekend Ahead?

This is me hoping that this weekend will be fun. Most of it will be spent in Columbia with my sister. We are going up Friday to watch my nephew play in a baseball game. After that we are spending the night up there. This includes me sleeping in my old bunked bed, in which I out grew years ago.....joyous.

Saturday includes going to another game for my nephew and then it is off to a birthday party for my niece. Sounds fun right? Not when it is a "My Little Pony" party. It is going o be girly and pony-ish. Woohoo...........*sigh*

We come back late Saturday night. Sunday is the usual with church and then we are watching Thor sunday night in preparation for the Avengers....probably going to be the highlight of my weekend.

Hopefully this weekend will be a fun weekend.

What Just Happened?

As I have mentioned time and time again, I am planning an Avengers Premiere event and invited almost 15 people. Today was the deadline to let me know if you were going. We have a group of 11 people going....not bad.

So today I went and picked up the tickets. I asked the group almost 2 weeks ago if they wanted 3D or 2D. One person responded with 2D and the rest said 3D. I am not a huge fan of 3D but I wanted to see this movie in 3D. So I got the tickets for the 3D showing. Took a photo of it and uploaded it to twitter. Man, the feedback was outrageous!

I got a tweet from one person saying "You got all of our tickets right?"

I got a text from another person saying "You got 3D tickets?" I responded with "Yea is that alright?" It was then said "I guess. It's too late now. I thought you said 2D." This is why I don't like planning events. People don't pay attention. It was obviously voted 2-1 for 3D. It is what it is.

I got another text from a person complaining they were invited. Ummm. My bad? He is older gentleman and since I have been back he hasn't spent much interest in what I was doing. Sorry you weren't invited. Go get your own ticket! Haha.

Never thought one little photo could cause such an uproar!

2012 Summer Movies

The summer movie season starts in two weeks with the opening of "The Avengers!" I have my shirt for it and I will be getting the tickets for it today as well! Super excited! However this is just the start. The summer movie season is going to be epic, here is a list of the movies coming out that I want to see based off of their release date order...

  • The Avengers (May 4)
  • Prometheus (June 8)
  • Brave [New Pixar Movie] (June 22)
  • G.I. Joe Retaliation (June 29)
  • Madea's Witness Protection (June 29)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (July 3)
  • The Dark Knight Rises (July 22)
Will I see all of these? Probably not but a majority of them for sure. Going to have to look into coupons for the movies haha.

Success!

Yesterday around 9:15 AM, I was up at the church working on a new video project and I get a phone call. I think 'hmmm, this is early for an unknown phone call." I pick it up and on the other line is another male. He says, "I am calling on behalf of the Kohls manager and would like to offer you a job!" I immediately say YES! and do a little dance in the balcony of the church. After 4 months, a very long road, I have finally obtained a job that I really wanted. Granted it is not a meteorology job but now I can focus solely on getting that MET job.

I am very happy with this new development. I start on tuesday night with orientation but not sure what my schedule will be.

One of Those Days

Today has been one of those days. If has had its high and lows but a majority of it was a low. Spent the morning working in the heat planting the flowerbed. It looks great but to me it represents my life right now. Just going around doing volunteering work and getting nothing out of it. Going from free gesture to free gesture. It was a good life for about a month but I am ready for change. I am ready for a regular routine. I am ready for a job.

Went to lunch with a friend. It was nice to spend time with just him and and not his kids and wife. Went to a place called "Tattoo Moose" which was alright. We had nice conversation about life in general. The conversation eventually moved toward technology in regards to Apple products. This friend got a girl pregnant out of wedlock and they married and now live in government subsidized apartments. They recently got a iPAD which made me pretty upset. Today I found out that he got the new iphone 4S and is planning on buying one for wife. Fair? I don't think so.

While out with him I got a call, hoping that it was Kohl's telling me that I got the job. It was from the same shopping plaza but a few stores down with Target. I have an interview with them on Friday for a loading/unloading job. Not really what I was looking for but nonetheless it is a job. Got home and found out that a friend obtained a job at Moe's within an hour of having an interview. This is the same Moe's that my "youth pastor" works out. Was I offered a job there? Nope. It sucks that I am about to have interview #9 and he got a job with one interview in one hour. It was quite upsetting and I am still jealous/upset. Patience is running out really quick. I have no motivation to fill out more applications as it seems like a waste of time. Why go to another interview? Why waste the time?

Yep my life is a flowerbed right now. Just doing work for no real reason. And now my Mom wants me to come out work on another flowerbed. I am just overfilled with joy.

What A Weekend!

After a VERY slow week, the weekend went at a good pace and was a blast! It started Friday when I had a very lazy day. I bought the first Hunger Games book in the series and read it one day. Sad I know but the book is great! After that I went and saw the movie. Not a huge fan of the movie but still good and kept pretty close to the book, which is pretty rare these days.

Saturday was spend in the morning with my niece. We worked outside for a few hours and ate grilled hotdogs for lunch. After that I hopped in a bus with roughly six youth and six adults with the church, and went to see Tim Hawkins in concert. Tim Hawkins is a christian comedian that does music parodies and was hilarious. If you get a chance, look him up on youtube. I will try to add some to the blog. Specifically look up, "God Bless Chickfila."

Sunday was sent at church. It was a great message from the pastor from 1 Corinthians about worship. The pastor talked about your attitude when it comes to church. Recently I really had no desire to go to church and so the message struck close to the heart. A lot of thinking going on right now. Might write about it soon. Randall and Mom drove Carolina back home and didn't get back until 9:30 PM. Around 8 I had some people over to watch Iron Man 2, the next movie in our Avengers monthly adventure in which we are rewatching all the movies that lead up to the Avengers movie. We had subs and enjoyed some good conversation. My cousin and his friend bought me an Avengers t-shirt! Oh yeah! The three of us enjoyed some good conversation on the porch for about an hour, only in the South!

Yes, very good weekend! Spending next weekend in Columbia for my niece's birthday....pony birthday. Should be fun!

"Hunger Games" Review

Yesterday I read the first book of the Hunger Games Series and also saw the book. The book was excellent! Obviously since I finished it in one day haha. I think the most fascinating/terrifying part of the book is that it could possibly true one day! In case you don't know, the setting of the book takes place in North America but it has become a very poor North America and has turned into a communist government with a capitol and 12 districts that export certain products. A girl and a boy, ages 12-18, are chosen from each district that go to the Hunger Games in which they face each other to the death for food for their district. Very violent but very well written and thought of.

The movie on the other hand to me was not that good. The pacing was awkward at times. The acting is pretty average and they flow of the story didn't go very well. Overall I think it was hard to move what was on pages, to the big screen. Not saying it was possible but could had been done better in my opinion. Anxious to see how the sequel turns out as they are currently looking for a new director. Maybe a new director will do the next book more justice.

I haven't read the next book yet but plan on buying them next week! Pretty excited!

200th Post!

This is my 200th post for this blog! Should we celebrate? I think so. Party time! Have a good saturday!

Slow Week!

This week is going by sooooo slowly! It has not been a normal week as church activities were cancelled this week due to the academy being on spring break. Weird? Yeah I think so too. Anyways, when I usually go up to the church on regular days, I have had to find other stuff to do. Not a very difficult task but can be challenging. Been filling up the time with working in the yard on that flower bed. It is coming along nicely as I am mostly finished. Have one tiny section left and then it is time to play some flowers!

I have also been working on the BCM year-end video. I produced the first draft the other day and sent it to Braden for a first review. Came back with a good review, and some final editing must take place before it is finalized. It will be finished on time, which is the most important thing at this point.

Another reason this week is going so slow is because of Randall. He is home for spring break for the entire and week and the man drives me crazy! He is 70 years old but acts like he is 100 years old. Does everything sooo slowly and is completely socially awkward. Yesterday I was sitting in the living room and heard him come back and open the garage door. Heard him messing with the door but didn't think anything of it. Saw him walking the backyard. Twenty minutes later the doorbell rings and I walk to the door and it is him. He locked himself out of the house! How is that possible?! You just left and had to grab car keys. This is literally the tip of the iceberg (not related to the iceberg that sunk the Titanic 100 years ago), and I assure you that you would be laughing if I told all the stories of Randall.

So yeah, that is my week thus far. Ready for this week to be over!

New Reading Material

Not really a huge fan of shopping but for some reason was in the mood for it today. Went to the local mall....nothing too special about it. I really went to buy the #1 volume of the "Avengers vs X-Men" comic book series. Good stuff! Favorite superhero group, Avengers, and second favorite superhero group, X-Men, in one series.....righteous! Great comic book, waiting for the next volume to come out next week! Anyways, back to the story.

So I went shopping. Checked out a bunch of stores. Looked for an Avengers t-shirt. Found one at Spencer's but that is a very raunchy store and I really don't want to give them my money. There was another store called Hot Topics that is a little more clean than Spencer's but they are in the process of moving to a new unit :/ Hopefully I find another t-shirt before May 4th! I also went into Family Christian Bookstore and bought Crazy Love. One book I always wanted to get. Last stop of my little adventure was Books-A-Million where I bought the comic book and decided to pick up Hunger Games as well. Pretty excited about starting the two books.

Saw a person from high school who was in the Front Ensemble with me. We were never great friends and and she was eating so I decided to not bother her. Never a dull moment in the mall!

Minor Setback

In my quest for obtaining an iPAD, there has been a minor set back. Viggle, an app where you check into TV shows and earn rewards points, removed the $25 gift card reward off of their rewards list. Therefore I am now $25 set back from what I had.

Here is a quick update:

BB Reward Zone: $180
Change Jar: $141
_______________________
Total: $321.00

Goal: $400

Progress: 80% Completed

However, should probably add $39.99 to the goal as I will need to buy a case as well. Update everything and...

Goal: $440

Progress: 73% Completed

Rant

WARNING: This post is going to be mainly me ranting about stuff, so if you don't want to hear it, don't read this post. Also, I am pretty pissed off right now so there might be language. You have been warned.

First thing is....why do people you really don't talk to try to reconnect but don't put effort into it? Here is the situation: A friend from 8th grade kind of went off the grid and our friendship kind of fell apart with a bunch of drama. I tried several times to keep it up with this person by contacting him/her when I got back from Alabama so we could hang out and usually nothing came back. Fast forward to graduation. This person didn't come to the ceremony which is understandable but I had a party a few weeks later in which this person said they were coming. Did they come? Nope. I was whatever about it. Somehow we both got new phones and the phone numbers were not transferred so we reconnecting through facebook in which it consisted of us sending phone numbers to each other. On March 24. Fast forward to today (April 9) and get a text saying "Sam!" Sent a text back with this person's name. No response. So why in hell are you trying to reconnect when you are not going to put any more effort into it. I spent 3 1/2 years trying to reconnect and now you want to reconnect....after I been in Charleston for 4 months! WTH! Don't expect any effort from me, as I already tried.

Next rant is about hanging out. I have been back in Charleston for 4 months and I still haven't found a core group. You are probably thinking that I have gone down this road. Yea I have! I haven't found that core group yet. In college there was a group that I could call up and we could do anything and everything we wanted and when we wanted. Here it is hit and miss. Here are the groups:
  • Church Group - All of them are engaged, married, or have kids.
  • High School Friends - HA! See paragraph above. Three of them I really keep up with and they live in Columba at college.
  • Old Church Friends - People who have left Ridge. Slacking in motivation and have babies
  • Family - Cousins are hit and miss....especially one of them

What am I going to do about it? To start in the coming two weeks I am going to start visiting new churches, churches that offer a better singles program than my current church.

That's enough ranting for one night.

Morning Routine

I have come up with a daily morning routine that will continue to occur over the next few days. It is all about drawings and prizes!

The full routine started officially yesterday. I wake up and get on the laptop and go to parade.com/avengers and fill out the form to win a trip to the N.Y.C. red carpet premiere of The Avengers! :D I would die if I won this trip. After that I go to the WWE site and fill out a form for an all paid trip to Wrestlemania 29 in NYC/NJ next April! I'm pretty sure I would die from winning this trip as well. I am feeling really lucky today for some reason so maybe I will actually win!

This morning I added a new objective that will last for the rest of the week. A local radio station, 95SX, is giving away free tickets to the WWE Smackdown World Tour, for when it comes to Charleston in May. They are giving away tickets at 7 AM and 4 PM everyday this week. Hopefully I can win those. It would be pretty sweet!

Lots of sweepstakes!

Interview #7

Is this #7 or #8? I have lost count now.

The point is that I had an interview this morning at Kohl's and I thought it went really well! The bookstore experience I have seems to have finally paid off as the job I would be doing is very similar to what I was doing at the store. The position is a sort of management position and computer position which I am completely fine with. They didn't give me a time frame but they said they would let me know about the job no matter what.

I have a really good feeling about this one but as I mentioned before, no matter what I will be pleased. Trying not to raise my expectations so they don't get broken.....again. Will update when I hear something!

Funny Tweets

I am on twitter (@samswindler) and I recently started to follow this account called "America's Favorite", which I saw Erika Conn retweet something from the account and thought it was hilarious. Basically the account is also one or two line jokes and some of the tweets are hilarious. Most of the tweets are sarcasm tweets in which some of the things I want to say sometimes. Here are a few of the tweets...

"That moment when your siting in the movies getting ready to watch an awesome film when all of a sudden a human giraffe sits in front of you."

"I got 99 chores and I ain't did one - Lay Z"

"'Hey, what's up?' 'Gas prices' 'You know what I mean, like...What's cracking?' 'Nutshells' 'Really? Fine... What's poppin?' 'Corn''

"I stay up late every night and realize it was a bad idea every morning."

"If I have 10 chocolate cakes & someone asks me for 1, how many chocolate cakes do I have left? That's right 10."

"In movies when people go underwater, I like to hold my breath and see if I would survive in that situation. I died in Finding Nemo."

"STUDENT + DYING = STUDYING"

Funny stuff indeed!

Planning

I have been planning events (hangout times, parties, etc.) for a while. It runs through my veins as my mom is a natural planner. Recently certain people have been complaining because I didn't invite to them events such as the Avengers Premiere but I invited their boyfriend, or significant other. First of all, grow up. Secondly if you are engaged to somebody then it is implied. This was brought up again today. I didn't let it bother me as much this time though.

Through planning so many events I have learned that you cannot please everybody. Tonight we are watching a movie pretty late, 1015, and some couldn't come because it was too late and they couldn't find a babysitter for their kids. The kid issue is a WHOLE different blog post which I will not write about, but the time I could not help as one of the people who has not seen the movie didn't get off until 10. We are watching Iron Man 1 in preparation for the Avengers movie! Needless to say, it will a fun time no matter who/who doesn't shows up!

3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th

I have noticed lately that I been hanging around a lot of couples....usually being the 3rd or 5th wheel. For some couples it is not that bad, but for others it is kind of awkward. Like last night, a group of us went to go see Titanic 3D (gag me) and it was me, my cousin and his girlfriend, another friend and his potential girlfriend. So here I am with with two (potentially) couples watching this movie about love. Kind of awkward. In some instances I have been the 5th and even the 7th wheel!! Made me start to think...

Why? Why can't I find that right girl? Why do I hang around couples and not single people?

On top of this, I started to realize that I have been involved in some way another, of connecting two people that are still dating and will eventually and marry. It seems that I am better at hooking people up but not at keeping a relationship of my own. Why? I wish I knew. If I knew I would change. I am not freaking out as I am only turning 23 and some people don't get married until 30 so I am still pretty good. Still thinking about it though. Thank you Titanic.

Wrestlemania: End of An Era

This past weekend was Wrestlemania in Miami, FL, and it was a great show! One match in particular was the best to me and that was HHH vs. The Undertaker, a matched dubbed, "An End of an Era" as both wrestlers were from the 80s and 90s and were the last two wrestlers still wrestling today that were from that era. HHH has been pretty much moved on to management positions of the WWE and The Undertaker is getting up there in age and will most likely retire very soon.

The Undertaker won the match and went 20-0 at Wrestlemania. A record that nobody is even close to beating. The match was great and brought out the emotion of those there and those watching. Right when you think it is about the end, one of the wrestlers break the pinfall and the match continues. Words cannot really describe the match.A truly classic match that will never be forgotten.

The Avengers

I mentioned in an earlier post ("Thought of the Evening") the things I do to entertain myself and The Avengers popped up. I am a superhero geek as I have seen every single superhero movie that has come out and read articles almost daily about movies coming out. For those who don't know, there are two major comic brands....Marvel and DC. Here is a slight breakdown of what superheroes belong to what brand:

Marvel
Cpt. America
Iron Man
Thor
Hulk
Spiderman
Fantastic 4
X-Men

DC
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Flash

I am mainly a Marvel fan, but do like one or two DC superheroes. My ALL time favorite superhero is actually a group of several superheroes called The Avengers. The group has changed over the past few years through the comics but the initial group consists of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, plus a few more minor characters. If you have been paying attention to movies then you will realize that those four characters have had their own movies (Iron Man had two). These movies have led up to the Avengers movie coming out May 4th! I am all about this movie!

I read articles almost every day about the movie and have watched the trailer about ten times! No matter what I will be seeing the movie at midnight on May 3rd and I am getting a group to go see it with me. To lead up to the movie, this group is getting together to watch all 5 of the movies that lead up to the Avengers, starting with Iron Man 1 this week. The only thing that I have left to do is get my Avengers t-shirt for the premiere! :D

Charleston, SC

Today Jaclyn flew in Charleston and Fred picked her up and we met for dinner for catch up. It was fun and nice mini-visit from friends. One of the first friends to visit South Carolina since I moved back. We started to talk a little about the life of charleston and some of the tourist sites. It started to make me think...

I am truly blessed to be living here in Charleston, SC! The city is beautiful and full of culture and history. The city itself has such a rich history dating back to the American Revolution and the city tourism is built off of that history. There is a story behind most of the buildings, and a story behind even the smallest pebble in the middle of the road. There is so much to see/visit in Charleston and I think sometimes that those who live here, including myself, take the city for granted as just another city but it is more than that!

This is an open invitation to any of my followers. Come visit to Charleston and I will show you around this great city, any time!

Got'v -> Private -> Academic

Trying to find that meteorology job that utilizes my education. Tough with no experience. Been filling out applications with the federal government in over 14 states! Recently moved to applying to private sector. Private sector, just as the government, wants people with experience. I am now considering going into the academic field with my degree. Technically I am qualified to teach middle school science and I know at least two people who have gone down that route and seem to enjoy it. Would I be a good teacher though?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Thought of the Evening

There are a lot of thoughts going through my mind tonight but one in particular keeps popping up.

As we grow up, our interests change based off experiences we have. They can easily change from middle school to high school to college. College is really when we change, or develop, into who we will be as adults. We use these interests to fill up our days during free time. This is where my thought comes in. When I graduated and moved back to Charleston, I wondered how life would go on without me (not trying to sound conceited). For example, I hung out my best friend Micah a LOT and I started to wonder who he would hang out with now. What does he do day-to-day. How do people fill their day up besides just work? For college students it is filled up with school work no doubt. What about adults....particularly young adults? I am talking about the less normal stuff besides watching TV or movies.

I started to look at my life and see what I do to fill up my day. One of the biggest thing currently is anything and everything involving the Avengers! In case you haven't heard, a the summer movie season starts off with The Avengers (not going to blog about it right now but soon). This includes reading articles, checking out photos, and recently reading the comic books based on the group. Other things I do include weather-related activities, and doing yard work.

Not really a deep thought but something I have been thinking of recently. So what do you do out of the norm that fills up your day?

Video Skill

Ever since high school I have been making videos for different organizations, family friends, and family in general. I took this "skill" with me to college and started to do videos for the BCM. Four years later I am going to present my last video for the BCM. I have been working on and off of it for 6 months! I am waiting for the last few events to occur, mainly the event called "Bridge Week" that is happening this week, so I can finish up the video. This video has the sense of closure and I am VERY pleased with it.

Every video I did contained something new. Here is a breakdown of what I added:

2008-2009: First video. Nothing too special.
2009-2010: Added video credits which included people dancing
2010-2011: Added "RMs Uncut"....a special video added to the end in honor of the RMs at the time
2011-2012: I can't say..........will find out soon! :p

Needless to say, the video titled, "2011-2012: The Legacy Lives On" will be presented on time on April 27th!

On top of the BCM video, I am also doing a video for Ridge Baptist Church. The church is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year and have several celebrations planned. One of those events is homecoming at the end of this month. I am obtaining video from past homecomings and putting them together to produce a 10 min video to commemorate homecoming and the 140th anniversary.

Lot of videos going on but I am enjoy doing it! The weekend of April 27 is going to be a big one for me with two video premieres.

Good Day

Today has been a pretty good day! My mom is paying me $200 to convert half of the yard to a flower bed in the front yard. The problem is that there use to a tree here and there are roots everywhere. The good thing  about it though is that they have all dry rotted and come up easily. So this morning I started to work on it and put in about 3 1/2 hours into it and stopped right when it was going to get hot. It was a lot of getting into the dirt and getting dirt all over the place. It felt good though to do some work and be active.

After I wrapped it up for the day I came in and took a shower and went straight to Sonic! Had a grilled chicken wrap and cherry limeade.....so good! After finished devouring that I took a nap. Then I had an interview with Verizon Wireless and this was  different one than the other six interviews. It was done over the phone from a lady in Charlotte, NC and last about 5 minutes. Thought it went pretty well. The lady said I would find out about the job in 5 days in which I would go into the store and do a face-to-face interview. So hopefully this is the one!

I am now watching "Let's Make A Deal," and waiting for Mom to get home with dinner. Then watching some NCIS!

"Wrath of the Titans" Review

First of all, I am a sucker for anything and everything that involves the tiniest hint of greek mythology! I have always loved the subject and always will. Now, back to the review...

"Wrath of the Titans" is a sequel to "Clash of the Titans" and mostly keeps the same actors and actresses which is big plus to me. The movies starts off right after the preview and I almost didn't realize that the movie started. It has great special effects. The story didn't develop much and didn't really go anywhere as there was not much character development or much background information. The whole point of the movie is to defeat the titans.....or titan really. There was only one titan! Kind of defeats the purpose of the name of the movie. That was pretty disappointing. There were a lot of greek mythology creatures which I enjoyed but none really relevant to the title or movie.

Overall I would give the movie a C. Could use a better story and better filming of fight scenes.

The Race Is On!

You might not know but there is a race going on, involving this blog.

iPAD Savings Update

Update!

So the savings for the ipad 2 continue! I have three main ways of saving right now. The first update is best buy reward zone. I have enough points to have $180 in certificates. The second update is my jar of change. It is currently at $137 and some change. The third update is Viggle, an app where you can check into TV shows and earn reward points that can be redeemed for rewards. It cost 37,500 points to get a $25 gift card. I am currently sitting at 18,672 points....about half way there.

So basically I am halfway there! Savings without a job, that is whats up!

Annoying Mother

I suck at creating titles for my posts. I wish I could just enter "[Insert Title Here]" on all of them.

Anyways, that is not the point of this post. Today has been pretty interesting. I woke up way later than I wanted to because I haven't been able to sleep well due to the temperature of the house being like Africa! Woke up took a shower and read the note from Mom saying I should take the girl she has been trying to hook me up with for the past 4 months to see Courageous. The note also said to call her....blah. Called her and she of course pushed the movie. I shot it down. Few hours later she called and continued to push the hooking up with this girl. I said no so many times.

Mom is on the way home now and she just called again and brought it up for a third time! NO MEANS NO! Good grief! She is beginning to piss me off and I know as soon as she walks in she will bring it up again. One of the many reasons I want to move out!!!!!!!!!!

4 months.

April is upon us and it has been almost 4 months since I left Alabama. I miss the people in Mobile (and surrounding areas) greatly! If I could I would move back there in a heartbeat and never second guess it. A lot has happened in 4 months and things are beginning to take shape.

I had one person send me a message about a month after of graduating saying you realize who your "true" friends are. Friends that keep in touch with you. Ironically his person hasn't kept in touch with me.....ha. It is true though what this person said. Going through my facebook friends it is interesting to see who you have heard from. I am grateful for these people! I know I can pick up the phone and call any of these people and the conversation would be as if I never left. That is awesome!

I still miss them all. It is looking like the next time I'll be in Alabama wont be until July for Christina and Colin's wedding. Will be an exciting time to catch up with everybody! Still trying to convince some people to come here before that.....*cough* Jaclyn *cough* and others. July will be a glorious month!!

Wrestlemania 28

Miamia. Wrestlemania 28. The Undertaker vs HHH. Hell in a Cell. Its going down. The Rock vs Cena. Sunday! and i wont be there.

My cousin and his gang is going but i'm not. Oh well. I'm tempted to buy it and watch it online. The only problem is that it cost $55! Really don't have that right now. Blah. Guess I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it so I can watch of the matches.

Interview #6 Update

In case you have been following, you are probably wondering how I was talking about interview #5 a few days ago and now I'm talking about interview #6. Well read as the previous posts that say #5 really say #6 because I completely forgot about an interview I had at the beginning of this now, 4 month process, so the latest interview is #6.

The interview for the SCDOT went alright. It was for a sign crew position in which I would go around and replace signs. Not really what I was looking for but I took the interview anyways as the pay would be good ($10/hr). They started to ask about my experience....oh boy. I have little to NONE experience in that type of field. I am the one that does not go to Lowe's and shop around and geek out over tools. Tools are boring. They asked about 4-5 questions in regards if I have used a certain tool and I said no to each one. Not good. The guy I would be working with was just shaking his head....Mr. I have been with the DOT for 25 years. Just keep shaking your head. I rebounded though when they asked why I was the best candidate and I told them that obviously I didn't have the experience but was willing to learn. You know the good ole, let me say something nice answer. Needless to say I probably won't get the job. I have a 25% chance of getting it as there were 4 interviewees, as I saw the list on the secretary's desk. We shall see.

In other news, Randall is taking a "sick" day today. Which means he is going to walk around the house and stare out of windows and get in my way. He moves soooo slowly and stands in doorways.....blah. Luckily I get to take my cousin to the airport so I'll be gone at noon until 3 when Mom gets home!

One last thing. I am beginning to apply to the private sector for meteorology jobs. Just applied to a job in California for a PT forecaster. The fun part, I can do the job in SC! Score. Thank you AMS for sending me your BAMS magazine! Woohoo!

Next - Wednesday

My "next" interview is on Wednesday with the South Carolina Department of Transportation or aka SCDOT. It is for a job in which I would put out road signs. Not really what I was looking for but at this point I will take it.

Hopefully this is the one! Prayers appreciated.

Next!

Just got the letter in the mail from the Town of Summerville saying I did not get the ticket sales job. Bummer.

Sadly I'm getting use to being denied as this is the 4th time now. Recently I have been getting really down after every time I was denied. This time I didn't get down. I tried something new with this interview. Before I have tried to guess on whether or not I got the job or not. This time I didn't have any expectations. Whatever happened, happened, and you can't change anything. It actually worked out. Sure I'm dissapointed but I am not depressed or upset.

So, onto more applications. In the past 4 days I have filled out about 15 applications. I have a plan on talking to the pastor at the church this week. Planning on doing more in the upcoming days as well! Taking a break over the weekend and continue on Monday!

One of Those Days...

Today has been one of those days. It really started last night when someone text me and asked why I hate them. I HATE those questions especially when they come out of nowhere. The reasoning behind the question was so childish and it mad me very angry. I tried to resolve it before the night ended but it didn't get ended until today. So I woke up with this annoyance. I thought working in the yard would help my mood but it didn't.

As the day progressed and I didn't get any phone calls related to interviews which kind of made me depressed. I pulled up my bank account and pretty much my spending has to stop immediately, which sucks because now I have to sit around the house and do nothing but watch tv and movies. Oh joy. On top of this it seemed that everybody who talked to me mad me mad or annoyed today.

I had to resolve the issue which probably isn't resolved but I don't care anymore. This person is about to get married and needs to grow up fast. Another person from the past bugged me and was impatient. Why can't people be patient?? My day was coming to a close when Mom came home and said I should start volunteering but that uses gas which is very expensive and I don't really have the money. Got over that later on and now I am watching NCIS which is a pretty good episode. Thought my day would end on a fairly good note when while I'm watching TV and Randall (step-dad) comes down and turns off every light in the living room leaving me in the dark......um hello? Rude! And people wonder why I can't stand him.

Yep, one of those days.

Thoughts of the Day - 3/17/2011

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

First thought of the day is on i. iPad 3 is the newest technology from Apple Inc. and in my opinion it is not that much better than the iPad 2. However, I want an iPad 2. I am currently saving my money, reward zone points, and coupons to get enough to buy the iPad 2. A 16 GB WiFi one cost $399.99. Here is a breakdown of my savings thus far:

  $399.99
-$175.00 (Best Buy Reward Zone Points)
-$25.00 (Best Buy Gift Card from Viggle)
 -$140.00 (change saved up)
------------
 +$60.00 remaining.....just need that job!

In other Swindler news today, while I was taking a nap today my air conditioner fell on my head. It busted up my nose and caused a pretty deep scratch across the bridge of the nose. Ouch. It bled for about 30 mins and finally stopped. Now I have a band aid going across my face....great.

I am not sure how my interview at Publix went as the manager mainly just asked questions that were already on the application plus one or two customer service questions. The manager said that that if I don't get a call from them in 3 days then I didn't get the job. It's only been one day so two more to go. I have another interview Monday at a local park to be the gate attendant. .

What Makes You Beautiful

I love to listen to music. It can change my attitude in a moment. I listen mainly to 95SX and The Way here in Charleston. While listening to 95SX I heard a song that was out of the norm. It is called "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction. It talks about how people don't see themselves as beautiful but everyone does. It is a great message for today's society as bullying is a hot topic and it can help raise self-esteem. It also doesn't focus on sex or inward desires. It is worth a listening to:

DC*B --> The Digital Age

In case you didn't hear, the David Crowder * Band split in January when they released their final album. Great album, btw. However I don't think the whole band has split up. They issued a "rockummentary" right before the split in which they acted like they had regular jobs. It focused on the band members and not really Crowder. At the end they showed an image with the words, "The Digital Age" and a web-site. It seems that the band is still together just minus crowder. They have only been posting images of instruments and haven't said much. I hope that this is true as I love the style of Crowder.

Check out the video below:
