This morning I went into to work to discuss with the HR manager the consequences of me missing my shift on Tuesday night.
First of all the HR manager is one of my favorite managers as for one he is a guy (we are very few at the store) and he is pretty close to my age. So after hardly any sleep I called into the store to see if he was there and then headed up there. I walked into his office and he asked the general questions about how I was doing. It must have been pretty obvious that I was stressed out as he then said "so you made an oops." Haha. I learned then that things move quickly through the store as he already knew that I was showed up, just on the wrong day.
He then went into a discussion that about how each employee gets 3 "no show, now call." However he told me that he was not going to count this one against me since technically I did show up, just the wrong day. What a relief! He then said that most everybody in the store has done it at least once. He even said that a few weeks ago he showed up at 5 AM to a shift that he was not scheduled for.
I am very thankful for my job and the people at Kohls. It is a great company and has a lot of great people in it.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
I made a VERY stupid mistake at work...
I was scheduled for "price change," which is where we go in over night and check every clearance item to see if the price stays the same and or goes up. Pretty simple.
Well I was scheduled to work tonight [Wednesday] from 10 PM to 6 AM. I went in tonight and there was pretty much nobody there. I walked around for a while and some lady asked me if I needed help with anything. I told her I was there for the price change shift. She looked at me and said "that was last night." ...............................................................................are you serious? Yes I missed a shift. Luckily my ad set supervisor was there so I rushed to her and asked what I should do. She said talk to the manager on shift, whom I have not met before tonight.
I go up to her and tell her who I was. Immediately she said "oooh. you are the one who missed your shift last night." Gggggrrrreeeaaattt. Even people I don't know, are aware that I missed last night. She said I had to fill out a form and go talk to the HR supervisor in the morning and tell him the situation. I am freaking out inside, considering that I have a "no call, no show" on my work record and I have only been there for a month. I asked my supervisor if I would get in trouble and she said that considering I showed up, just on the wrong day, probably not. Still freaking out.
Stressed. Stressed. Stressed.

Hiking Trip
Linville Gorge |
Chris -- Our Guide for the Hike |
FIRE POWER! |
My view for lunch on Saturday |
Discussing where to put up hammocks and such. |
Our group from L to R: Brad, Broc, Chris, Me |
Linville Gorge |
Thursday started off early with waking up at 6 AM and leaving by 7:30 AM after a quick breakfast meal at McDonald's. Roughly 5 hours later we arrive to the gorge and the adventure begins. We started off on the Pinchin Trail, which is considered a difficult trail on the scale for the gorge. It was downhill but very steep. To me this was a very easy part. Sure it was steep but it was downhill and so went pretty quickly. We reached the bottom of the gorge in 2 hours and decided to go ahead and camp for the night. We camped right by the river. I slept in a tent and the other three slept in hammocks. We woke up pretty chilled so started a fire, ate breakfast, and took off.
This was the only day that was completely full of hiking. We followed the river for about 2 miles. At the bottom of the C. Cove trail we took a lunch break. It was a relaxing time as I stuck my feet in the river and enjoyed a nice meal. We all took naps and then started the hike up the trail. Right before we took off, I landed on my left leg wrong and sprained my knee a little. So going uphill was a little rough. I pushed through it (with some help of aleve) and we made it up to the top in about 4 hours. We found our campsite for the night and then separated and did different things. I took a little nap and just relaxed. We all came back and just hanged out around the fire. Went to bed pretty early.
Saturday we slept in and then packed up and headed to an outlook post called "Wiseman's View." This outlook showed over half of the gorge. It was a beautiful site. This is where the last picture was taken. We left the gorge around 11 and then drove to Asheville area where we ate our first meal. We stopped at T.G.I.Fridays and enjoyed a great meal. I ate a Jack Daniels Cheeseburger and fries. We left and arrived back to SC around 6.
Left out a lot of the fun stories and such but they are more fun in person haha. Overall a great trip!

Job(s) Update
I was able to get off for the weekend so I will for sure be going on the hiking trip this weekend! Pretty excited!
As I mentioned before, there was a concern that this would put me in jeopardy for my 90-day trial period. I asked my supervisor about it and she said that as long as you get someone to take your shift (which is what I did for both scheduled days), then it won't count against you. The week or so that I take off for the wedding will count for me but when I had my interview, I specifically asked if this would be a problem and the hiring manager said no. Therefore I am fully set! :D
I also signed the last bit of paperwork for the DOT job today and my start date is going to be around June 4th. I am getting a little more excited about the job now that it is beginning to become more of a reality.
Well, that is all the updates I have for now. Will definitely blog about my hiking trip when I get back!

Thoughts Of The Day
Haven't blogged in a while and here are some the things on my mind right now...
I have asked off of work for the weekend to take a hiking trip with some friends. I am taking a HUGE risk in the fact that I am in a trial period for the first 90 days of my employment. If I miss a lot of days then they will terminate me at the end of the 90 days. To counter this I am doing a few things to show that I like working at Kohl's, which I do! The other night I had my first overnight shift and it was supposed to be from 10 PM to 6 AM but we weren't able to finish before six. I volunteered to stay behind and help finish up after everybody left. I ended up staying until about 10 PM. I did this to help out the boss and mainly because I wasn't really tired. I am hoping that this doesn't come back to haunt me.
Another thing on my mind is a new job. I eluded to this in a previous post. Last Wednesday I received a phone call from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in regards to my interview I had with them a few months ago. They offered me a job with the sign crew. I went ahead and accepted the offer as it has better pay and is full time. The hours are M-F 8 AM to 4 PM and some weekends. This works out with my Kohls job as it is typically only nights and is still doable. My start date is going to be around June 1. If this job or Kohls doesn't work out, I guess I have the other job to rely on. If it comes down to it, I would rather keep the Kohls job than do the SCDOT job. Guess we shall see.
Speaking of jobs, the new job and the 90 day trial at Kohls put me in a tough spot for the end of July. That is the wedding for Colin and Christina, in which I am a part of. I was planning on taking a whole week off of to spend some time down in AL so I could see everybody. With the new job, this might be a little difficult. It takes two days to travel back and forth and the wedding is a two day event. I guess I could leave that Wednesday and return Sunday, so I would only have to take off 3 days from SCDOT and 5 days from Kohls. Guess we shall see.
Lots going on. I ask for you to pray for me so that I make the right decisions and that everything works out. Thanks.

Past 24 Hours
The past 24 hours have been crraaaazzzzzyyy! Some of the things that have happened I can't go into too much detail (yet) but here is what has happened:
Wednesday started off a normal day but I received a call around 4:30 PM from a business offering me a job. Unfortunately this is not where I can't go into too much detail but I will hopefully be able to very soon! This offer set things in motion that I did not expect. Wednesday ended with Broc and Chris texting/calling me practically begging me to call Kohls to change my schedule next weekend so I can go on a hiking trip with them. I talked to Broc about it and we came up with a plan and so far that plan is working!
I work next Thursday and Saturday, and the trip is Thursday morning through Saturday night. My Thursday shift has been taken care of and the Saturday shift has been pretty much taken care of as well but won't know 100% sure until Monday afternoon. If this works out then I will be hiking next weekend. Um. I have never hiked in my life so this should be interesting and should produce a lot of stories.
Back to the crazy 24 hours. Today was the main part that was just crazy. This morning was a pretty busy morning. This afternoon one of the strongest thunderstorms hit Goose Creek and dumped a ton of rain. I will have to look up how much rain fell today. I know some areas were reporting 4 inches of rain in less than an hour! Crazy! In the middle of this crazy storm I ended up going to a 2nd grade class and we did the tornado in a bottle experiment. It turned out great! After that I went to work and worked 6 - 1045 in which the power went out and I actually did great unsupervised. Great past 24 hours but man am I tired!
Finishing up my piece of cherry cheesecake and then I'm hitting the hay. Hope everyone is having a great day!

EPIC!
The amazing entertainment on television right now continues with season finales all this week!
It all started with the series finale of Desperate Housewives and it did not disappoint! It was a great way to end 8 season of the show and featured every person that appeared on the show. I love how they did that, brought back people from 8 seasons and featured them all in one episode.
Monday night didn't feature any finale for me but did feature a premiere....America's Got Talent! One of my favorite reality shows. They have a new host, Howard Stern, who is very controversial but I think he brings a lot more humor to the show. He is very blunt in his opinions on the contestants but in a very funny way. I was literally cracking up the other day when I watched it. Also the new season has a good vibe as promo videos seem to be better quality and it gets me excited haha.
Last night was the season finale of NCIS. I am following the actor and actress of "Tony" and "Abby" on Twitter and they have been tweeting that it was going to be an "explosive" finale and sure enough it was. Not to give anything away but the fate of every team member in jeopardy. Great finale but I can't wait until the season premiere! Hahaha. Never satisfied.
